[Durandal Cosplay] Palatinus Equinox Armor, Sallying Forth Tomorrow at Hefei Dimension Gate

Hefei Dimension Gate opens tomorrow, and right now I'm doing the final packing and prop testing—you could say this preparation has been a complete rush job. The Palatinus Equinox armor had a rich variety of details right from the design phase, making actual production much harder than expected. In particular, the white rigid breastplate parts and the gold hollow-out waist ornaments required repeated fitting adjustments not only to match the character's image, but also to ensure wearing comfort. After all, running around and posing at an anime convention all day would be impossible if the armor jammed the joints.

When choosing materials, I intentionally picked a white fabric with a subtle sheen to express the texture of the armor parts, while using a relatively matte material for the black lining and collar section. This creates a more sophisticated contrast of light and shadow in photos. The waist decorations and chest gem were treated with high-gloss finishes; though some hardcore prop builders might feel the polishing isn't quite enough, as a practical cosplay outfit for conventions, it holds up extremely well. For the lower half, I paired white fitted trousers with corresponding leg armor. I'm very satisfied with the elasticity and snug fit of these pants, which visually lengthen my body shape. Combined with these white boots accented with gold and black, my overall body proportions look slender and sharp.

What took the most effort this time was actually the greatsword prop. From initial foam shaping to surface spray painting, every step required extra care. The black primer combined with scattered blue patterns gives it a cold weapon feel when static. But what I was most looking forward to was its lighting effect; internal wiring connects high-brightness blue LEDs, and once turned on, an energy-filled visual effect pops out instantly. As seen in the lighting test photos, this blue glow not only illuminates the sword blade but also reflects onto the white trouser legs and boots, creating a powerful sense of immersion. Although the length and size of this sword make it a bit space-consuming and heavy to carry—a small burden for tomorrow's trip—to reproduce the imposing presence of a heavy armored knight like Palatinus Equinox, this sword is totally worth bringing along.

At Hefei Dimension Gate tomorrow, besides walking around the convention in this outfit and weapon, I really want to exchange thoughts with everyone on Honkai Impact 3rd. After all, Honkai Impact 3rd has celebrated its 8th anniversary, and Palatinus Equinox, as a classic armor form for Durandal, holds special commemorative meaning. Although this cosplay outfit has intricate details, when walking around on site, the white skirt hem, cape, and the two translucent blue ribbons on the back waist will all create great dynamic visual effects.

I'm currently organizing the wig and extra replacement accessories in the storage box to prevent the styling from collapsing due to bumps along the way. Considering I might sweat a lot, I've also prepared setting spray and emergency repair tools. Although it's been frantic, watching these parts come together step by step from the initial cosplay concept to final execution is truly fulfilling. I don't aim for a 100% perfectionist prop-master level of accuracy, but at least players familiar with Honkai Impact 3rd's Palatinus Equinox setting should be able to recognize it at a glance and feel that heart and effort went into this cosplay.

I'm about to set off for Hefei with this heavy gear. The lighting in tomorrow's venue should be much better than what's captured in front of my home mirror, so I'm looking forward to getting great shots. My mood right now is a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation—after all, doing a heavy-armor cosplay is always a test of endurance and patience. Hope everything goes smoothly!
