When changing into this blue-and-white color-schemed gym uniform, my heart was actually a bit nervous. Usually, I'm used to wearing rigid or armored attire, so suddenly switching to this lightweight T-shirt, shorts, and athletic jacket, combined with over-the-knee white socks and canvas shoes, indeed brought a quite different sense of crisp freshness. The pair of beast ears with small white flowers on my head and the highly recognizable yellow halo served as the visual center of the entire look. To keep them stable and prevent them from falling off easily, a lot of fixing work was done during the early styling phase.

This shoot took place at the outdoor venue of the Firefly Comic Con. Compared to studio photography, the outdoor natural light is much more organic, and the translucent soft light yields better texture for the wig and clearer translucency for the skin. However, since conventions have huge crowds, finding a clean environment that can complement the character was quite a challenge. Ultimately, we chose to shoot near the riverside railing. The water surface behind was shimmering with light, and the green trees on the opposite bank brought a sense of tranquility, which perfectly neutralized the athletic vitality of the gym uniform. The overall frame looked bright and fresh, exuding a casual, everyday Japanese portrait photo vibe.

Many people think that Cosplay is just about putting on clothes and taking photos, but the early preparations are actually highly tedious. To fit the character's original temperament, the makeup couldn't be too heavy or flashy; I chose a clear and translucent base makeup leaning toward the Japanese portrait style, paired with aqua-blue colored contacts to light up my gaze, making the overall look more approachable. The orange lanyard hanging around my neck and the blue "STAFF" ID badge holder not only balanced the monotony of the large white areas but also added a great deal of real-scene authenticity and storytelling to the frame. The water bottle with a blue label held in my hand also served as a perfect pivot for hand movements, restoring that everyday state of rehydrating after exercising.

When posing, the professional photographer guided me to find some relaxed, less rigid postures. In this set of photos, I tried leaning against the stone railing as much as possible, or holding the water bottle with one hand while gazing into the distance, creating a lazy nonchalance as if the character were in a break during an activity. Through this outdoor photo drop, I also clearly felt that mastering this kind of sporty character actually requires a heavier focus on naturalness, making every movement look like a casual snapshot rather than forced posing, so that the frame doesn't appear stiff.

The convention venue was bustling with people, and when taking photos by the river, we occasionally encountered passersby stopping to watch. It was impossible not to feel nervous at first, worrying about the awkwardness from a bystander's perspective. However, under the photographer's rhythmic guidance and burst shooting, I quickly got into the zone and gradually adapted to this relatively airy yet unique costume. As it turned out, for certain clothing types that one wouldn't dare to try easily in daily life, making a first attempt in a convention atmosphere like this often reaps unexpected surprises. That lightweight, unconstrained feeling actually harmonizes beautifully with some of the subtle playfulness inherent to the character.

This outdoor convention photo session experience gave me a fresh understanding of gym uniform styles. It doesn't necessarily have to be magnificent armor or complicated long dresses; simple and crisp sportswear can likewise manifest a character's personality traits beautifully. The outside noise and the awkwardness in front of the lens gradually dissipate during the focused process of dedicatedly restoring the character's setting. I hope this set of photos can express that clean and refreshing temperament I wanted to convey, counting as an attempt to step out of my comfort zone through this Mari Iochi cosplay and anime-style photography record.
