[Reze Cosplay] Chainsaw Man Raw Photos: That Touch of Night in the Streets and Alleys

Sharing this Chainsaw Man Reze cosplay photoshoot. The shooting locations were chosen in the night streets and alleys and a wooden-toned coffee shop.

The preparation before shooting actually took quite a lot of thought, especially the hair and makeup for the character this time. The reddish-brown short wig was specially trimmed to create layers, retaining a slightly messy yet natural style so that when turning my head, the motion of the hair strands would look more vivid. In terms of clothing, a white shirt paired with a black bow tie was the first step, followed by a black pinafore-style mini dress, making the overall design lean toward a uniform and capable look. I really love the combination of black over-knee socks and thick-soled black leather shoes in this outfit; they not only carry a vintage atmospheric photography vibe but also visually stretch the leg proportions very well.

The bouquet of white flowers in my hand was chamomile. Holding it as a prop perfectly brightens up the look amid the mainly black-and-white outfit, preventing the overall frame from looking too dull. During the shoot, the shallow depth of field brought by the large aperture blurred out the cluttered background, making the feeling of walking in the alley highly immersive.

The outdoor shoot was intentionally scheduled at night for night street photography. Those intersecting wires overhead, the electric boxes on the walls, the vintage streetlamps, along with the dotted light sources from residential buildings unexpectedly created a classic teal-and-orange color contrast. The interwoven warm and cool lights gave the frame a cinematic texture. I walked deep along the street, looking for a sense of deep perspective. Paired with the soft light of the streetlamps, it fit perfectly with that slightly nostalgic and atmospheric photography tone.

After moving to the indoor coffee shop, the atmosphere changed completely. The wooden window frames, solid wood tables, and rattan stools, along with the railings outside the window and the natural light filtering through, created a strong contrast with the outdoor night scene. When shooting indoors, the light was much softer. Leaning by the window or sitting on a chair, that quiet state was perfect for conveying emotions through the eyes. Moving from the dynamic outdoors to the static indoors perfectly showcased different sides of the character.

This set of cosplay photoshoots actually took quite a long time. I was indeed a bit exhausted from constantly looking for the best camera positions and perspective angles that day, but seeing the final photos made it completely worth it. In post-processing, I leaned toward preserving the natural light and shadow atmosphere of the raw photos, without over-sharpening or adding heavy filters. Because the raw grain and clutter brought by the streetlamp glares are a crucial part of the street's storytelling.

Although doing cosplay itself is something that requires a massive amount of energy—including changing outfits, scouting locations, and repeatedly adjusting positions—once you blend into the character, grab that bouquet, and walk down the street, everything seems to happen naturally. This time, I poured my understanding of the character into the photos, and I hope this set allows everyone to see the unique aura I have interpreted.
