When finalizing the makeup and styling for this blue-and-white high-cut athletic suit, I initially struggled with how to balance the character's cool detachedness with playful elements. In the end, I simply added a fluffy, voluminous big tail and animal ears and tail, which counts as a secondary creation attempt of the original image. That white bone prop is the core embellishment of the entire look. Even though it is just lightweight foam material, biting it in my mouth still required a lot of attention to mouth strength to prevent the prop from slipping, while simultaneously maintaining a clear and innocent gaze. This was indeed more physically draining than I imagined.
This shoot was set next to a pure white grid in the suburbs, where the surrounding fallen leaves and branches carried a bit of a late autumn atmosphere. The natural light around nine o'clock in the morning was incredibly translucent, shining obliquely on the white squares to cast highly layered geometric shadows. The silver-gray wig was styled to be relatively smooth, with the bangs specifically trimmed straight to make the facial contours look more compact and delicate. That blue hairpin on the side was intentionally added to break the monotony brought by large areas of silver-gray, adding a refreshing visual highlight.
The action of raising a single leg in the first picture tests body posture control when the center of gravity is unstable, relying on thick-soled black chunky heels for support. The angle of the bent knee perfectly echoes the lines of the white grid. The over-the-knee black socks combined with the deep blue high-cut bodysuit beautifully outline the extension from the legs to the waist under natural light. To keep the movement from looking too stiff, I needed to consciously relax my shoulders during the shoot.
In the second image, the body leans forward slightly, with hands resting naturally just above the knees. At this time, the fluffy tail behind drops down naturally, forming a stable triangular composition with the body. The brown straps on the deep blue bodysuit and the tie around the neck stand out exceptionally well from this angle, serving to separate the colors and giving a visual focus to the otherwise monotonous dark-colored clothing.
The freeze-frame in the third picture is the moment I am most satisfied with—biting the white bone in my mouth while raising a hand to gently touch the top of my head. This posture guides attention to the facial expression and the animal ears on top of my head, maximizing the contrast between coldness and playfulness. The white grid serves as a very clean background that doesn't steal attention from the character, but instead makes the high-saturation colors of the frame stand out even more.
Since the shooting time was close to noon, overhead light had a major impact on facial shadows. Therefore, we chose a side-backlit position to weaken the harsh facial shadows. This lighting left a ring of natural highlights among the hair strands, making the hair look more textured. The entire outfit is made of elastic fiber material, making it quite comfortable to move around in, which prevented me from feeling restricted when posing.
For makeup, I specifically chose a lighter rose-bean-paste colored lipstick to accommodate the requirement of biting the prop in my mouth, ensuring the lip color wouldn't look too abrupt. The eye makeup was mainly earth tones, primarily deepening the eye contours to keep the gaze clean and clear. During early location scouting, I found that the light and shadow effects of this grid were excellent. Paired with the nearby withered branches and fallen leaves, it could create a very natural outdoor atmosphere. Every attempt like this is a process of turning a flat 2D character into a three-dimensional one for an Anime cosplay. There are many considerations regarding prop adjustments and light capture throughout the process of outdoor photography, and I thoroughly enjoy this experience of turning imagination into a frozen frame.
