[Yoimiya Cosplay] Genshin Impact: The Traveler's Figure Frozen in Time Before Withered Trees

Putting on this short Japanese-style outfit in orange and white and standing in front of a real set composed of withered trees and unique rocks made me feel as if I had instantly stepped into a summer world filled with flame and vitality. The starting point for this look was very simple: to recreate to the maximum extent the unrestrained, life-loving passion of this character. To ensure the photos achieved the best possible outcome, I did plenty of prep work beforehand—from layering and trimming the wig to the specific way every prop knot was wrapped.

The overall palette of this outfit is anchored by eye-catching orange-red and warm white. The asymmetrical diagonal collar design on the upper top, paired with golden geometric patterns on the sleeve cuffs, gives the garment traditional cultural depth without appearing heavy. Wrapped around the waist is a highly recognizable wide belt, while the thick red twisted rope behind my back serves as the true soul of the entire look. It not only materializes the character's neat and lively personality, but also serves as a wonderful visual extension whether swaying in the wind or resting on rocks when static. To prevent the silhouette from looking bulky, the short skirt on the lower half features a high slit, creating a clash between softness and crispness right where it meets the white leg bandages and red-and-black techwear leg guards. The black and red color-blocked boots paired with leg guards add a strong sense of power when standing firm on complex vines or rocks.

The gnarled withered tree chosen for this scene brings a strong narrative feel. The dark gray stone base features rich porous structures, paired with sparse yellow fallen leaves on the branches, establishing a quiet yet slightly emotional autumn afternoon vibe for the entire frame. Sitting on the rock or attempting to jump with open arms, I felt no need to deliberately force complex emotions—the vitality bursting out from battle and the relaxed ease of being with friends flowed out naturally.

The lighting actually fluctuated quite a bit on shooting day. We waited outdoors for the clouds to part before capturing a few natural sunbeams that illuminated my wig and shoulders perfectly. The photographer was extremely professional in this regard, blurring out the withered branches behind to concentrate visual focus on the character, keeping the grand ambient mood without losing character detail. During breaks in shooting, we experimented with different camera angles, such as full-body dynamic snapshots and close-up side profiles while seated on rocks. Under varying angles, the metallic and fabric textures of this outfit exhibited distinct plays of light and shadow.

Whenever performing a Yoimiya cosplay or characters with intricate accessories and dynamic movement settings, I repeatedly check every detail—such as whether knee guard straps are crooked, or if small bells on headpieces have become tangled from excessive motion. I know that in the final photos, even a tiny unnatural detail can break the free-spirited, confident aura the character is meant to convey. Especially when portraying such outgoing personalities, controlling the extension of limbs and facial expression tension heavily tests one's energy. You cannot look too aggressive, nor too soft; that precise blend of dashing spirit and approachable warmth requires practice before a mirror time and time again.

Most of the time, people might only see the smiles and liveliness in finished shots, but perfectly displaying this character's "spirited agility" genuinely tests costume materials and Anime-style outfit synergy. For makeup, I deliberately avoided heavy coverage, using base makeup closer to skin texture to highlight her bright clarity, paired with a playful touch of orange-red around the eye makeup to bring her expressions closer to the character's intuitive feel in-game.

Reflecting on this shoot, despite spending an entire day moving across locations and getting a bit tired climbing up and down rocks in this costume—especially given the relative stiffness of the leg guards and boots—the moment I saw the final photos, every bit of hard work felt completely worth it. I truly love the feeling of immersing myself into another character's life, sensing their experiences, and emulating their demeanor. This passion for Anime-style outfit culture is tucked right inside these granular props, wigs, and photoshoots.
