This outdoor set of Momoka Hanyuu from Arknights was captured at the exterior grounds of the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo, featuring an extremely high level of detail recreation throughout the styling. From the pink wig and red ribbon hair bow to the golden earrings and the pearl necklace around my neck, every single piece was curated to evoke that sensational feeling of an idol taking the stage. The off-the-shoulder pink performance dress boasts abundant layers: front lace-up ribbons intertwined with surrounding ruffles and bows, accented by a high-low white sweeping train that creates tremendous stage presence while in motion. On my legs, I wore white pantyhose paired with red Mary Jane shoes and ruffled lace cuffs; standing on the pedestrian zebra crossing, it elongated visual leg proportions remarkably. Holding the staff prop adorned with a golden star and red bow, my entire commanding aura shifted the moment I struck each pose.
The exterior venue of the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo is always brimming with energy, but it severely tests physical stamina and condition. The outdoor temperature that day was quite warm, making it rather sweltering to shoot outdoors in such thick, multi-layered attire. Nevertheless, to nail the shots, maintaining facial expressions and body posture was paramount. The photographer brought along a Sony A7M4 paired with a 35-100mm lens, a setup that proved exceptionally practical for convention floor photography: the 35mm end comfortably incorporated the surrounding trees and street ambiance of the expo, while the 100mm end compressed the background gorgeously, locking focus entirely onto the character and costume nuances. We tested several vantage points near the crosswalk and guardrails, doing our best to bypass cluttered crowds and busy backgrounds while harnessing natural daylight and ambient hues to craft the atmosphere of an open-air concert stage.
In terms of pose design, to highlight vibrant idol energy and vitality, I crafted several dynamic, tension-filled gestures—such as standing with crossed legs, extending one hand openly forward while raising the staff slightly with the other. This posture not only highlighted the cascading layers of the skirt and clean leg lines, but also injected lively movement into the frame. Many cosplayers overlook body language during convention shoots; in reality, slightly amplifying the range of motion before the camera and working in tandem with fluttering ribbons and ruffles elevates the visual impact dramatically.
Outdoor photography relies heavily on weather and lighting conditions; the late-afternoon sunlight was relatively gentle, so we seized the window around the tree shade and guardrails to complete this photo series. The pacing of outdoor convention shoots is usually brisk, demanding close synergy with the photographer and upfront communication regarding desired framing and artistic mood to maintain a high hit rate. Pouring everything into faithfully recreating a character's look for convention photos—from wig styling to donning intricate wardrobe pieces—is all about capturing the best possible frames within limited time. This set preserves many authentic convention moments, blending meticulous craftsmanship with natural outdoor vitality.
