This Blue Archive Azusa (Swimsuit) shoot was scheduled at an outdoor swimming pool; although the sun was blazing overhead, the deliverables turned out truly fantastic.

Let's start with the wardrobe details: pastel pink-and-white stripes form the core palette, trimmed with contrasting deep navy ruffle accents, anchored by the oversized pink ribbon bow on the chest as the central visual focus. The headpieces are delightfully intricate, incorporating a pink polka-dot bow, a large blue floral hairpin, and miniature watermelon slice props, which, alongside the yellow-and-white striped broad sleeves, produce an energetic and vibrant color harmony. On the cosmetics side, to complement the silvery-white wig and bright blue contact lenses, the eye makeup utilized soft pink-orange tones, keeping the complexion pristine, luminous, and clear.

The gear utilized for this session was a Sony a7R III paired with the Tamron 28-75mm lens. The high resolution of the a7R III excels at rendering micro-textures, while the 28-75mm focal range proved indispensable around pool perimeter constraints, effortlessly balancing wide environmental frames with tight intimate close-ups. By embracing the direct hard midday sunlight, we let crisp shadows carve across wooden decking and adjacent architecture to heighten three-dimensional depth. To channel authentic poolside summer play, I explored balancing on one leg atop the circular pool riser, lifting the sheer skirt panels, and sitting down to splash water. Clasping a little yellow rubber duck prop brought additional playful liveliness to the compositions.

The greatest hurdles in a Summer pool photo shoot lie in lighting control and kinetic poise—vigilantly preventing loose wig strands from plastering against the face while maintaining luminous, translucent skin tones. Under blistering outdoor sunshine, facial fill-light required extreme finesse to prevent blown-out highlights from wiping away delicate skin texture. We predominantly favored side-rim lighting or utilized architectural shadows to soften harsh direct exposure. In post-production color grading, shadows were gently lifted while contrast was dialed back, aiming to recreate crisp summer coolness and infuse the frames with airy clarity.

The entire production flowed effortlessly. The photographer possessed sharp instincts for freezing dynamic motion—whether lifting the sheer trailing hemline while standing on the submerged circular dais or crossing my legs gracefully over the wooden deck, each gesture aimed to reflect the character's lively grace. The sheer white voile fabric drifted weightlessly under the sun, shimmering in harmony with the pool's dappled water ripples to weave a refreshing summer escape. Reflecting on this poolside session, Shirasu Azusa's buoyant color design pairs naturally with the summer season, revealing fresh surprises from every angle.
