Today, I'm sharing the official cosplay photoset of Shirasu Azusa in her swimsuit version. For this shoot, we chose a summer beach set built inside a studio, primarily to capture that serene, relaxed indoor vacation mood. Compared to harsh direct sunlight outdoors, indoor studio lighting is far easier to control, allowing us to achieve a translucent, soft, and gentle visual texture.
The swimsuit design for Swimsuit Azusa is packed with rich details: pink, blue, and white stripes, cascading ruffled flounces, and a large pink bow at the chest. To faithfully recreate this billowy fullness and dimensional layering, the fabric selection and tailoring were paramount. The wig was styled as sleek, straight silver-white locks kept completely smooth and frizz-free, adorned at the crown with lemon slices, watermelon clips, and various colorful ribbons—rich in detail. The necklace was crafted from colorful, high-saturation beaded strands. For makeup, to match the character's sweetness, I chose purple contact lenses, used a soft pink base for the eye makeup, accentuated the aegyo sal, applied generous blush, and finished with a dewy pink lip glaze, capturing that fresh, lively anime aesthetic.
The scene was furnished with white wicker armchairs, blue-and-white striped beach loungers, wooden crates, faux pineapples, as well as a white inflatable swim ring and a silver ice bucket. The poolside was lined with blue-and-white mosaic tiles that resonated seamlessly with the palette of the outfit. During shooting, I sat by the pool dipping my feet into the water, or sat cross-legged along the edge. The ambient water reflections cast lovely specular highlights onto my legs, making the shots feel remarkably natural. At times, I reclined lazily in the wicker chair, resting my head on one hand or gently shielding my eyes from the light. In terms of expression, it was about balancing sweetness toward the lens with the languid relaxation of a summer afternoon. Supporting one's body weight properly was essential, as the abundance of ruffles could easily make the silhouette look bulky if the posture slumped.
Shirasu Azusa possesses a singular character charm: in Blue Archive, she conveys a quiet aloofness subtly blended with endearing cuteness. Therefore, during the shoot, I made micro-adjustments to my expressions—rather than flashing overly broad, sugary grins, I favored faint, gentle smiles, occasionally letting my gaze drift slightly into a soft daydream to honor her quiet, composed disposition. Yet because this is Swimsuit Azusa on a summer beach, a touch of sweetness remained essential, making that delicate emotional balance deeply rewarding to explore.
The props also played an integral role. The swim ring not only enriched the composition, but also served as an excellent physical support; sitting on or leaning against it allowed my posture to appear naturally at ease. The ice bucket and chilled beverages infused authentic lifestyle vacation warmth into the set. The tactile texture of the indoor sand was fantastic; stepping barefoot across the sand or resting against the blue-and-white tiles added grounded realism through foot placement details.
Regarding the makeup, while it might appear subtle on camera, balancing highlights and contouring on set was critical. Studio lighting can be quite intense, and without deliberate facial sculpting, features easily wash out or flatten in the frame; thus, seamless transitions between contour and blush were vital. For the wig, silver-white fibers tend to reflect excessive glare under studio strobes, so constant communication with the photographer was key, dialing in lighting angles to prevent blown-out highlights and preserve the fine texture of every strand.
For the lighting setup, the key light was kept soft, paired with a tasteful rim light to carve out three-dimensional subject separation. The pool's blue tiles and the warm sand created a compelling cool-and-warm dialogue, enriching the scene's chromatic layers. This indoor studio shoot spanned from morning through afternoon; though physically tiring, seeing the finished cuts made every bit of effort worthwhile. The climate control and curated set pieces allowed me to fully immerse myself into character. Post-color grading prioritized preserving the bright, refreshing palette, subtly tuning blue saturation to make the pool water crystal-clear while enhancing the warm glow of the sand. The pink, blue, and white wardrobe popped brilliantly against the warm beach and cool water. Tremendous care went into everything from pre-shoot garment prep and wig styling to on-site set design. Working poolside required mindfulness of footing while keeping the ruffles from getting overly soaked to keep the frames clean. Overall, shooting this swimsuit version of Shirasu Azusa was a truly wonderful creative experience.
