[Misaki cosplay] Blue Archive Kisaki Seaside Swimsuit Photoshoot

Preparing for this seaside shoot took quite a while, mainly because I wanted to capture the organic, relaxed ease of Kisaki wearing a swimsuit by the ocean. To stay faithful to the character, I specifically chose this black two-piece swimsuit layered beneath a sheer, oversized black cover-up shirt that fluttered weightlessly in the coastal breeze. For the wig, I selected a style with blunt bangs and a long side braid; the signature gray fin-shaped headpiece atop her head was sculpted and anchored at home beforehand, paired with sleek black sunglasses. For makeup, to align with her aura, I emphasized the crimson lower eyeshadow and completed the look with a deep-toned glossy lip lacquer.

Only upon arriving at the shore did I realize the sheer number of challenges when shooting a swimsuit cosplay outdoors. The sea breeze was fierce, easily tangling the wig strands—especially the long braid, which had to be smoothed out after every single set. To scout a clean background free of clutter, we walked a considerable distance along the beach, finally settling on an area framed by coconut palms and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

We began on the dry sand with a large, transparent inflatable swim ring. Posing with such a bulky prop is deceptively tricky: you must prevent the ring from awkwardly blocking body contours while keeping gestures fluid and unforced. I tried a pose balancing on one foot with the other knee bent, toes pressed into the sand, actively working to keep my balance as the shutter snapped. Later, we transitioned into the shallow surf, which produced the most physically taxing set of seated photos. To capture that refreshing, immersed sensation, I sat directly in the seawater, letting gentle waves lap over my calves while resting against the swim ring. The glittering water ripples caused severe surface glare, requiring the photographer to constantly adjust angles and the lens hood, while I held an extended leg pose to maximize visual proportions in the frame.

Afterward, we returned to the sand, using palm trunks as foreground framing for another seated set. This setup was comparatively relaxed: sitting on sun-warmed sand cradling the swim ring, natural and compelling shots came easily without exaggerated motion. Shooting from morning until late afternoon and constantly wading into the water meant re-applying sunscreen and touching up makeup took a lot of time, leaving my skin slightly sunburned. Yet upon reviewing the final selects, the coastal light proved exquisitely luminous and clean, crisply capturing fabric textures, hair highlights, and sharp silhouettes. It genuinely brought the vision of her coastal vacation to life, and despite the physical fatigue, the resulting images made the entire journey worthwhile.
