[Evernight Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Headcanon, Rainy Day Mirror Selfie Log

I went to the Ijoy 10.3 anime convention with an Evernight headcanon cosplay, only for it to start pouring the moment I stepped outside. The decorative red-and-black umbrella I brought along turned out to be the real MVP. Even though rushing through the heavy rain was a hassle, holding the umbrella and looking at the overall silhouette in the mirror surprisingly matched the character's aesthetic vibe. In Tsukuba, I usually cosplay cute, sweet characters, but this time I wanted to try a sharper dark gothic style and do my best to bring out the unique texture of this original setting.

For this anime convention, I started prepping the tricky makeup days in advance. After buying the pink wig, I layered and trimmed the bangs myself, and took a long time picking out red contact lenses to get the exact right shade. The outfit was a black lace dress with translucent lace along the collar, a cinched waist, and a voluminous puffy skirt, paired with white socks and platform shoes. For this character's headcanon, I kept the styling details as close as possible to the mysterious yet slightly devilish feel of the original lore, which is why I intentionally pinned a metallic butterfly hair accessory in my hair.

The indoor lighting at the convention was pretty tricky, so given the venue constraints, I mainly focused on mirror selfies. The glare from the mirrors was intense, and because of the downpour outside, natural light refracted through the glass and mirrors in bizarre ways, creating glaring highlights on my face and the top of my head. During photo retouching, I spent considerable effort removing the harsh reflections. Once they were gone, the mood immediately clicked—the character’s gaze needed to look moodier and darker, and harsh edge lighting made the makeup look too casual. My post-processing approach was to suppress highlights, boost contrast, and preserve the texture of the wig and outfit.

The handle of this red-and-black umbrella featured a red heart-shaped eye motif, and the dark petals on the canopy matched the dress tones perfectly. When taking selfies with the jellyfish prop, the translucent holographic sheen diffused across its tentacles, looking stunning under the indoor lighting. Although the rain dampened my front bangs on the way there, it accidentally added a natural, authentic visual edge to the entire look.

Walking outdoors in this outfit meant the hem soaked up water easily, making it a bit heavy to move around. But at the convention, many fellow fans recognized the headcanon vibe of the character and even chatted about the hair styling and makeup palette—that kind of interaction was genuinely rewarding. The makeup held up for five hours in the rainy weather without the eyeliner smudging, proving my usual technique could withstand the humidity. For fans of dark aesthetics, this gothic-infused styling packs a strong visual punch for both daily looks and convention shoots. For the mirror shots, I kept myself centered without cropping the borders; even though the background had some clutter, it felt like an authentic snapshot of real life. Even though dealing with the rain was an ordeal, the convention vibe and the final shots made it totally worth it.
