When shooting this set of client photos for Genshin Impact Sangonomiya Kokomi, the most challenging part was actually how the makeup presented in front of the lens. Although there have been jokes in the thread regarding gender differences, makeup can indeed significantly alter facial contours, especially when portraying a character with such a gentle and ethereal style, where the softening of eye makeup and shading becomes highly critical.
To recreate the character's traits, a light pink short wig with straight bangs was chosen, and a light blue gradient was hand-dyed on the inner layers and hair ends. Setting the shape of that big bow on top of my head also took a lot of effort—too big would look clunky, while too small would lose the character's iconic mark. The focus of this shoot was to highlight the lightweight texture of the dress; the skirt hemline made of light purple thin gauze fabric is very fluffy but can easily look bulky visually, so during the shoot, it required repeatedly adjusting standing and sitting postures to let the skirt hem naturally spread out while retaining body curves. The lace choker with a sapphire pendant around the neck, as well as the blue bow badge on the chest, are the finishing touches of the overall look.
The scenery of the selfie studio offers a high level of freedom, allowing for multiple vibes to be captured all at once. The red velvet armchair paired with the black-and-white checkerboard floor creates a European retro fairy tale atmosphere, which is perfect for showcasing the character's dignified sitting posture; meanwhile, in the swing scene and among the flowers, paired with a white rose in hand and a nearby mushroom plushie, it captures a more vivid and agile daily life feel. Especially for the set sitting on the leather sofa, exquisite cupcakes and tea sets were specially arranged on the small round table next to me, adding a touch of daily life warmth to the entire frame.
The shooting process was actually more tiring than imagined, because there was quite a lot of gauze on the skirt hemline, and the white lace gloves on my hands easily slipped off when holding props. However, I am quite satisfied with the light and shadow quality of the finished photos; the warm-toned light of the selfie studio struck the gauze dress to deliver a soft-focus effect. Overall, this shoot not only replicated the character's temperament but also integrated some of my own understanding of the character, achieving a balance of gentleness and details in the visual presentation of this Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay.
