This Soryu Asuka cosplay photoshoot from Neon Genesis Evangelion was captured on a seaside on a beautiful sunny day. To portray the character's everyday summer ambiance, I specially chose a pale yellow slip dress, paired with her iconic red twintails, red hair clips, red Mary Jane shoes, and blue colored contacts. This Red hair colored contacts look with the vibrant clash of red, yellow, and blue stood out brilliantly under natural light.
The sea breeze was strong during the shoot, which tested the wig's styling, but fortunately, careful backcombing had been done in advance. For half the time, I walked barefoot in the water holding my shoes to truly immerse myself in the seaside atmosphere. Throughout the shoot, I strived to capture the character's signature expressions, like the tsundere aura when glancing back or posing with hands on hips.
When selecting the cover photo, I picked the shot sitting on the breakwater with legs extended sideways, as this posture beautifully accentuated the leg lines and the flowing movement of the dress, creating a balanced composition with the subject centered. Although bare-legged without stockings, pairing bare legs with red Mary Jane shoes against the turquoise water made the skin look exceptionally fair.
The Seaside photoshoot was quite exhausting—stepping back and forth in the water while managing expressions and the wind direction—yet the resulting photos were deeply satisfying. The outfit's satin fabric carried a lovely sheen under the sun. Facing the lens, I tried to relax and focus on the sound of the wind and waves to keep expressions natural.
To complement this scene, I also tried close-ups and half-body shots, but the seated pose remains my top recommendation, as the leg lines look slender under the interplay of light and shadow. The low-angle camera placement paired with the breakwater's incline accentuated leg length nicely. This shoot was a delightful Refreshing summer memory, and I'm very grateful for the photographer's compositional ideas.
