I have been preparing for this shoot of 37 from Reverse: 1999 for a while now. Today I finally organized the finished photos, and while the feeling is still fresh, I'd like to share the shooting process and some personal feelings with everyone.
When I first received the wig, the long, ice-blue curly hair was already very faithful to the character's features. However, since the lighting in the venue was quite strong on shoot day, I styled the wig with extra layers during prep—especially the braided sections, which were tied into very firm plaits to prevent them from unraveling during larger movements. This character's hairstyle is quite recognizable; matching the fringe and side curls closely to the original work without feeling unnatural was tricky, and I was quite nervous when the stylist picked up the scissors. Fortunately, the final result turned out very natural, glowing with a cool sheen under the camera lens that fit the temple backdrop wonderfully.
The costume's color scheme is mainly dominated by cream-white and gold. The cut of this outfit is loose and flowing, using fabric with excellent drape so the folds flow naturally whether walking or sitting. There are many geometric patterns and golden ribbon details on the clothing; to avoid any costume flaws on camera, I constantly adjusted the fit while wearing it. The golden collar and pendant carried significant weight, making my neck a bit tired after wearing them for a long time, but to match the character's temperament, I treated it as an immersive cosplay experience. The golden arm cuffs and small accessories were also carefully coordinated; these details prevented the outfit from looking monotonous, giving it an ornate, deity-like decorative quality.
Working with photographer WiFi went very smoothly this time, as we always aimed to present a sacred and ethereal temple atmosphere. Choosing this scene constructed with white classical pillars and stained-glass windows was truly the right decision. Light filtered through the colored glass, striking the white pillars and angel statues to form a gorgeous tonal contrast. During the shoot, I walked barefoot on the steps; the clean white surface and cool texture actually helped me relax.
The main props on set were two green leaves. In several photos of the set, I hold them while standing or sitting, intending to sprinkle a touch of natural vitality to embellish the cool-toned temple atmosphere environment. When setting compositions, WiFi excelled at capturing light, shadow, and my gaze. Throughout the shoot, we tried different angles—like the reclining perspective in the later shots, raised arm movements, and the posture sitting on the steps with a leg raised—all aimed at elongating body lines and bringing stronger visual tension to the frame.
During photo retouching, we tried our best to maintain the original photos' clear translucency without overly pushing contrast or saturation, letting the pale blue and warm gold merge naturally. Although this photo set features a specific character and set, the light and shadow approach leaned toward soft diffuse reflection, avoiding harsh shadows as much as possible to make the visual feel gentler. Detail-oriented viewers might notice the braided cord at my ankle and the floating hair strands, which were key elements preserved during post-processing. From a pure shooting experience standpoint, combining high-key lighting with classical sculpture backdrops is immensely helpful in demonstrating the character's cool, pure, and sacred demeanor in Anime-style photography.
Preparation for this look took quite a long time before shooting, from costume fitting to adjustments and final lock-in. Although the shooting process was somewhat exhausting, seeing the finished photos made all the prep work feel completely worth it. I didn't deliberately emphasize which game this character is from, but when I wore this outfit and stepped into this meticulously arranged scene, I genuinely connected with her. I hope when viewing these photos, everyone can feel the quiet, sacred sense this character brings. The photography and editing are the combined efforts of our whole team, and I am personally very satisfied with the final result of this 37 cosplay.
