[Elysia Cosplay] Honkai Impact 3rd Ode Among Flowers — Capturing a Dreamy Girlish Vibe Through Light and Shadow

The theme for this shoot is Elysia's Ode Among Flowers from Honkai Impact 3rd. Recreating this outfit required immense dedication, not only due to her popularity, but also because of the outfit's extensive intricate details. To achieve our ideal dreamy aesthetic, the photography team and I put significant effort into pre-production and on-site execution.

Regarding the styling process: her iconic long pink hair was cut with wide layers and styled with soft curls to create a light, flowing effect. The purple pupils are one of my favorite details; we deliberately muted the eye shadow color, using a clear base makeup to accentuate a bright, pure gaze. The elf ear prosthetics were fixed-type, requiring meticulous gluing at the edges to blend seamlessly with my skin tone. For the floral wreath and white veil headpiece, we selected lightweight materials to ensure they wouldn't weigh down the wig structure. The purple ribbon choker around the neck, combined with the small golden bell and pink heart charm at the side of her ear, instantly captured her character accents.

The dress itself is the centerpiece of this set. Featuring an off-shoulder design, white feather wings rest along the outer shoulders to add three-dimensional depth. The skirt layer mixes light purple and white chiffon, where layered ruffles and shimmering organza catch the light to produce a soft, luminous glow. The challenge with this gown lies in its voluminous inner and outer layers, which can look bulky if shot from the wrong angle, so we constantly adjusted the skirt folds and train placement. The white thigh-high socks and heels with purple bows were custom-sourced to keep the purple accents unified across the entire look.

For gear, we used a SONY A7M5 paired with the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II—a versatile setup for indoor studio work with rich depth of field. We utilized abundant soft light and high-key setup, relying heavily on backlighting and side-backlighting. For instance, in the shot where my fingertips gently touch the veil, the side-backlight pierced through the veil fabric, casting a rim light around my hair strands to produce a translucent, ethereal feel.

For posing and composition, the team and I planned several scenes. This included the classic full-body shot seated on a silver stepladder, where the photographer chose a wider frame to encapsulate every layer of the skirt and train. My personal favorite is the top-down shot lying amid artificial flowers (a vibrant mix of blue, white, pink, and purple blossoms). Surrounded by petals with legs gathered and slightly bent, the white socks and heels highlight sleek leg lines while showcasing how the dress hem fans out gracefully, delivering strong visual impact.

Shooting complex gowns always reinforces how much wardrobe can restrict movement. Sitting down requires artfully arranging layers of chiffon to maintain fluffiness rather than simply sitting on crumpled fabric. However, seeing the final images makes every adjustment worthwhile. The background featuring arched windows and floral staging created a serene aesthetic that, bathed in warm light, felt sacred like a wedding while retaining a fairy-tale dreaminess.

In post-processing, we avoided heavy edits, making subtle adjustments to brightness and contrast while preserving the core pink-and-purple palette for a bright, clean, soft presentation. Elysia's character embodies innocence and romance, which I feel our lens captured truthfully. From refined makeup to searching for optimal light angles, this photoshoot was a joyful collaboration.
