This time I cosplayed Alyosha from miHoYo's Genshin Impact. While I've long been a familiar face in Turgenev, this was truly my very first time tackling a Shota character. To capture that cool, youthful, and delicate demeanor, I invested plenty of thought into styling and makeup beforehand. After getting the mint-green wig, I recut the layers, lightly styled the bangs and wisps along the temples with hair wax, and deliberately shaped an ahoge antenna at the crown. To complement a young boy's facial bone structure, the foundation was applied very clean and fair, with generous soft pink blush dusted under the eyes. Subtle freckles were dotted across the bridge of the nose and cheeks, paired with golden-amber contact lenses; I practiced in the mirror for quite a while to find that non-aggressive, pure and innocent gaze.
The costume's detailing is exceptionally rich. The plush white fur collar and fluffy earmuffs make the face appear wonderfully petite. The white cape with red trim has a satisfying drape, and the red, white, and silver geometric crest on the chest serves as the visual centerpiece of the whole ensemble. Fastening the metallic buckles on the belt and harness straps took a bit of time, but once donned, the three-dimensional silhouette was impeccable. My favorite highlight was the custom matching plush cotton doll—from the mint-green hair to the white fluffy earmuffs and the little blue, white, and red outfit, everything was faithfully replicated. Carrying it around pushed the interactive fun to the max.
We moved across multiple locations during the shoot. Under the bright overhead hall lighting at the convention, surrounded by bustling crowds, capturing close-ups while holding the doll created a very relaxed, breezy vibe. Even during mealtime at the restaurant, an impromptu idea struck: using chopsticks to gently hold the doll over a plate to snap a 'feeding' POV, conjuring a whimsical slice-of-life charm that broke the fourth wall. I also documented a few candid snaps while waiting for transit at the station. Cosplaying a young boy isn't just about putting on the costume; you have to maintain a slightly restrained posture throughout, keeping shoulders relaxed and speech and expressions subdued to avoid breaking character.
The color palette of this series is remarkably clean, where the blue, white, and red color blocking feels cozy and warm alongside the plush accents. Without exaggerated poses, simply standing quietly resonated far more authentically with the character's temperament. Bringing along my beloved matching doll to complete this Genshin Impact Alyosha cosplay and watching the vision in my head come to life made the whole experience deeply fulfilling.
