Wearing this black-and-white Maid outfit actually carries noticeable weight; the petticoat has two tiers, the outer lace embroidery is heavily crafted, and the three small white flowers on the apron required careful positioning so they wouldn't look awkward. While the sheer cuff design nicely accentuated arm lines, it felt somewhat sweltering under the outdoor sun.
In terms of makeup and styling, grooming the blue wig focused on layering at the tips, while the bangs and side tendrils were sculpted securely with styling wax. The black triangle marking on the left forehead was applied separately; to prevent it from peeling off due to skin oils, I touched up the adhesive multiple times throughout the day. The red hair ribbon needed to align smoothly with the wig's flow, complementing the blue colored contacts to evoke the character's original cool color palette, while the addition of cat ears brought an irresistible gap moe contrast.
At the CPGZ outdoor area on the day of the expo, sunlight was abundant, but black fabric absorbing light while white fabric easily blows out demanded exceptional lighting control from the photographer. We adjusted the reflector angle multiple times following the sun's trajectory. Lifting the skirt hem was designed to showcase waist and leg contours, placing the feet at a slight angle to visually elongate leg proportions. Under backlighting, the White stockings showed a delicate semi-translucency—a true merit of this fabric, rendering leg skin tones even and slender.
Before shooting, considerable time was spent smoothing wrinkles, as this material creases easily. The waist ties had to be cinched tightly in the back to define the corset structure. Paired with high heels, this intricate outfit further flattered body proportions. With many passersby at the event, we seized low-traffic angles for quick candid captures to keep the frame clean. With every turn, the ruffles of the skirt and the lace along the waist fluttered gracefully with the motion.
The night before the con, I rewashed and styled the wig; blue hair can easily look artificial under bright light, so I textured it with subtle separation and clean strand definition, paying special attention to avoid flat roots. Securing the cat ears and hairpieces was another hurdle, as they tended to slide down over time; after locking them in with hairspray, adding several hidden bobby pins ensured they stayed intact during outdoor shooting.
The fabric of this costume is structured and crisp—especially the sleeves and skirt—meaning it doesn't cling loosely to the body, requiring constant posture adjustments to showcase its natural volume and pleats. When lifting the skirt, holding up a broad sweep of the lace edge with the left hand while gently touching the black-and-white floral pattern with the right made the movement harmonious.
CPGZ saw massive crowds, making occasional photo bombers unavoidable, so we seized momentary gaps in the crowd to capture shots. Outdoor lightbox reflections added complexity, yet introduced a lively realism distinct from studio shoots. The perk of natural light is that the White stockings maintain a true, pure tone without looking yellow. After testing numerous angles, this shot of lifting the skirt and glancing back was chosen as the main feature.
