[Aston Machan cosplay] White Dress Moe-Style Outfit Breakdown from Umamusume: Pretty Derby

Let's dive straight into the shooting process. This time, I prepared the Aston Machan look from Umamusume: Pretty Derby. Since the character has very distinct features, pre-shoot preparations focused mainly on faithfully recreating the outfit and props. This white dress features brown line accents, with plenty of ruffles along the collar and cuffs, as well as cut-out shoulder details that demand clean shoulder lines. It took quite some time to arrange after putting it on to make sure every fold fell into place, especially the multi-layered skirt. While styling it required patience, the resulting fluffy, voluminous look was truly lovely.

The paired white over-the-knee socks looked exceptionally clean against the pure white background. Since white stockings easily overexpose under strong lighting, I paid extra attention to leg angles during the shoot to preserve the socks' texture and fabric detail. The white circular platform beneath my feet provided a great anchor point; stepping on it, I leaned forward with my weight shifted onto my right leg, gently placed my right index finger to my lips, and gazed at the lens. This pose looks playful, but because of the steep lean, it was easy to wobble without steady footing, and my core grew a bit sore after several takes from maintaining that delicate balance.

The floor props were a major highlight of this shoot—a soft, pastel-colored assortment of plushies scattered around, including yellow stars, pink strawberries, and blue and purple plush bunnies. They nicely filled the negative space on the white background, keeping the frame clean while adding lively energy. Throughout the shoot, I constantly monitored the skirt's angle to avoid obstructing the plushies and best showcase the outfit's layers. The photographer was a huge help, especially with lighting control. In an all-white, high-key setting, even a slight overexposure can wash out the skirt pleats and stocking texture, but balanced lighting beautifully brought out the fine brown line details on the white garment. Fortunately, the final shots preserved rich details.

The hair styling was another crucial step. The brownish orange-red curls, the ahoge on top, the side curls, and the white hair accessories required considerable effort during pre-styling. To keep the wig from falling apart during the shoot, a generous amount of hairspray was applied; though slightly stiff to the touch, it was well worth it for the final aesthetic. The white plush charm dangling from my waist and the flowing hair pieces behind also contributed greatly to the overall vibe.

We opted for a studio shoot with an immaculate, pure white backdrop and a white mat on the floor. A minimalist background places high demands on costume quality, as any flaw is magnified. Reviewing the photos after wrapping up, I felt the styling, coordination, and expressions perfectly captured the character. Though holding poses on the platform was tiring, the composition's depth and layering fully realized what I envisioned, making all the effort worthwhile. In this Anime cosplay set, the white tights cosplay styling, layered ruffles, and plushies came together to deliver great visual completeness.
