This shoot selected the theme of Touhou Project, paired with this red, black, and white color-matched Wa-lolita dress. The details of the clothing are extremely rich; layer upon layer of bright red sheer ruffles, combined with black checkerboard patterns and golden subtle textures, give it a very heavy feel when worn, but the layering in photos is truly fantastic. Considering that the color contrast of the skirt is already strong, I simplified my makeup. The base makeup was kept as matte and clean as possible to avoid reflections affecting the texture of the clothes. The eye makeup focused on drawing long eyeliner, paired with dark-colored contact lenses, making the gaze more focused. Blunt bangs paired with huge red bow hair accessories on both sides stably anchor the overall visual center of gravity on the head, so that even though the clothes are very complicated, the whole look doesn't appear cluttered.
The fabric of this costume is very thick, and the back straps need to be adjusted tightly to support the ideal silhouette. When wearing it, I put on about three layers inside and out, plus thick white stockings. Actually, the sensible temperature wasn't low at all, but it was just right for outdoor shooting in late autumn. The matching of white stockings is crucial, because the dark wood grain and blue lake background are relatively cool-toned, and using pure white on the legs can greatly brighten the frame, transitioning the visual focus from the complex skirt hem to the character as a whole.
Walking to the shooting position, I instantly fell in love with this wooden platform with a window frame. The lake view and distant mountains behind are distinct in layers, with excellent perspective. Coupled with the red maple leaves hanging down above the window, it forms a perfect echo with the red elements of the skirt hem, saving many steps even in color grading. The light in the afternoon of the shooting day was very soft, without strong direct light. I sat on the windowsill, stretched out my legs, and leaned sideways against the wooden pillar. Picture one was captured in this relaxed state, with one hand gently resting beside the leg, the other hand naturally hanging down, leaning the body backward, allowing the huge back bow and the sheer layers of the skirt hem to fully spread out.
To showcase the three-dimensional feel of the hair accessories, I specially took picture two, a back view. Turning around, displaying the huge bow hair accessory to the lens while gazing at the distant lake surface. This posture has high requirements for the skirt silhouette; it requires constantly pulling and organizing the petticoat and ruffles on the back so that the patterns present nice wrinkles on the back as well. The checkerboard and subtle textures of the skirt hem are particularly obvious under side light, which is also the essence of this outfit's design.
The entire shoot did not use complex fill-light equipment, relying entirely on natural light and the natural colors of the scene. Red maple leaves, blue lake water, white architecture, and dark wooden houses—these environmental elements combine to form an excellent natural studio. This matching is very suitable for shooting in architectural spaces with height differences in autumn, as it can not only use natural light to shape three-dimensionality, but also highlight the details of the clothing itself through environmental color contrast.
