### Serene Japanese-Style Courtyard
For this shoot, I specially chose a Japanese style courtyard and bamboo forest in Nanjing. The location itself naturally carries a sense of serenity, which blends flawlessly with Reimu Hakurei's red-and-white shrine maiden outfit. Regarding the costume details, I paid close attention to the hair ribbon, the patterns on the sleeves, and that classic shimenawa decoration around the waist, as accuracy is truly crucial for cosplay. This makes for a wonderful entry in my Nanjing photoshoot log.
### Dynamic Lighting & Shrine Composition
The light shifted very quickly on the day of the shoot, allowing the photographer to capture several sets of shots with different moods. In the shot where I'm holding up the gohei and looking up at the sky inside the bamboo forest, I feel it conveys a sense of relaxed comfort, letting one's guard down. For the photo where I'm sitting on the wooden corridor, the light happens to filter through the lattice gates, making the boundary between light and shadow appear exceptionally gentle.
However, my favorite is still the front-facing shot under the red torii gate; the composition frames the plaque and the lanterns on both sides, making the visuals strongly reminiscent of Touhou Project's classic shrine style. It was a great experience in Bamboo forest photography.
### Embodying Reimu's Spirit
To be honest, outfits with traditional elements can easily make poses look stiff. Therefore, I deliberately let myself step into the character's signature state of being "easygoing yet slightly serious"—for instance, gently lifting the skirt hem or letting the gohei rotate with the wind. I also learned a few little tricks during this session, such as how to fill the light during a backlit shoot in the bamboo forest to make the edges of the hair strands let out a beautiful glow.
Every time I do a Reimu Hakurei Cosplay, I can feel the character's unique charm—her sense of duty in protecting Gensokyo balanced against her very casual daily life. Expressing this contrasting gap through body language is quite interesting. I hope this set presents the Reimu Hakurei of my understanding, showcasing not only her heroic spirit during battles but also her lazy comfort and freedom on a summer afternoon, perfectly bringing out a Japanese style shrine maiden vibe.
