[Kusanagi Nene cosplay] Project Sekai Deep Sea Dreamland: Nene Lounging on a Mahogany Chair

A tremendous amount of care went into everything from wardrobe and makeup to set dressing for today's deep sea dreamland theme featuring Kusanagi Nene. Nene's personality in Project Sekai naturally carries an introverted, slightly detached aura; thus, for the costume concept, I selected an ensemble that blends black-and-white check patterns with Gothic Lolita elements.

The top features an off-the-shoulder ruffled cut, accented across the chest with black lace and criss-cross lacing, while a black corset cinches the waist neatly. The skirt has a voluminous, multi-tiered structure with mint-green tulle lining the bottom layer, spreading out softly when walking or sitting like the delicate tentacles of a jellyfish. On my head, I wore a matching lace headband; the mint-green braided wig was styled with petite side twintails on both sides, which, when paired with crimson contact lenses, created a striking visual impact.

To complement this styling, I wore semi-sheer black long gloves, black pantyhose (Black stockings) along my legs, and white high-top ankle boots adorned with black bows on my feet. The overarching color palette clashes between black, white, and mint green, harmonizing Gothic chill with fairytale whimsy. For the set dressing, the photographer chose deep blue backdrops and cascading drapes in navy and white, introducing vintage furnishings like a mahogany chair, ornate frames, and an antique birdcage. When the lighting washed over the set, the deep blue backdrop etched my silhouette with remarkable clarity.

During shooting, I explored multiple poses to channel Nene's distinctive essence. Sitting on the mahogany chair with legs crossed, tilting my head back slightly while reaching up to touch the hairpiece, I aimed to exude an effortless, languid ease. In standing poses, resting one hand along the backrest while raising the other hand gracefully allowed the skirt's rich tiers to shine. While the set leaned cool-toned, immersing myself in it genuinely felt like stepping into a hidden secret garden nestled in the deep ocean.

To me, the most captivating aspect of cosplay is never just putting on the costume, but faithfully capturing the character's demeanor and spirit. While Nene may appear somewhat aloof on the outside, she is deeply gentle within; therefore, throughout the shoot, I continuously sought a gaze that balanced cool composure with a subtle touch of wistful vulnerability. Every cosplay endeavor—from makeup trials and wardrobe fittings to discussing compositions and post-processing color palettes with the photographer—is a journey of continual refinement. Bringing this set smoothly to fruition is truly thanks to the photographer's patient guidance.

From the tactile fabrics of the garments to the studio lighting, everything resonated seamlessly with the deep sea dreamland theme. Stepping into another identity to live out a dream in reality remains an incredibly meaningful experience for me.
