[Seiga Kaku cosplay] Touhou's Wall-Phasing Hermit: An Unconventional Immortal Routine

The setting of passing through walls gives Seiga Kaku a truly unique sense of contrast. To bring out the best in this character, I dedicated considerable effort to the costume, hair, and makeup. Seiga Kaku's outfit is a classic fantasy style infused with Hanfu elements. A pure white outer robe paired with a dusty-blue skirt creates an overall palette centered on white, blue, and silver, offering a wonderfully ethereal and cool Ancient style visual. The expansive wide sleeves serve as the absolute highlight of the entire ensemble, constructed with layered opaque fabric and translucent sheer tulle, trimmed with delicate lace along the edges. To give these sleeves proper volume, I tested several underlayers before settling on a lightweight yet structured petticoat lining, allowing every movement to exude airy grace. The corset design at the waist is rather intricate; I accented it with teal ribbons and tassels, adding metallic and beaded flower brooches at the chest to elevate detail richness.

Regarding makeup, to complement the light Blue hair wig, I deliberately chose matching high-luminance contact lenses to enhance the eyes' translucent clarity. The base makeup aimed for clean natural radiance, while the eye makeup utilized soft pink shading paired with delicate lashes to soften the gaze. For the lips, I selected a natural rosy tint, avoiding excessive boldness to better evoke the hermit's otherworldly, transcendent aura. The wig was cut into a bob with bangs and side tendrils, featuring a small topknot bun adorned with pink-and-white floral ornaments and silver tassels to complete the styling. Styling the wig was a craft of its own; to keep the top bun looking natural and voluminous rather than flat, I used plenty of styling spray and repeatedly adjusted the floral pins to ensure flawless visual appeal from every camera angle.

For the shooting location, we sourced an architectural setting featuring vermilion doors and traditional geometric lattice windows. The vivid red and the blue-and-white costume formed a striking contrast between warm and cool tones. The natural daylight was fantastic—sunbeams striking the fabric made the lace and tulle textures crisp and vivid. In framing, I utilized the red door as a natural framing device, standing centered within the frame to achieve symmetrical balance. Holding a flower branch prop decorated with white blossoms and pearl strings, I posed with arms gently spread to let the voluminous sleeves cascade naturally. To showcase costume details, we shot both close-up portraits and full-body frames—close-ups highlighted the makeup and focused gaze, while full-body shots showcased the overall silhouette and layered tailoring. Throughout the shoot, I continually adjusted the sleeve drape, as multi-layered garments can easily look bulky without mindful styling after every few shots.

The entire shoot was quite physically demanding—the layered attire and floor-length skirt restricted movement, but seeing the fabric textures and immersive ambiance in the finished cuts made everything worthwhile. Seiga Kaku naturally embodies a transcendent yet playfully mischievous hermit demeanor, so in facial expression management, I didn't stick purely to a cold aloofness, but kept a gentle, subtly enigmatic smile. While passing through walls cannot be literally captured in static photos, the billowing silhouette and tranquil atmosphere vividly evoke that magical, non-routine fantasy.
