[Janus cosplay] Azur Lane Doujin Only at Hangzhou Anime Convention: Photoshoot & Exhibition Notes

A photoshoot log ahead of the Mengjie Azur Lane Doujin Only at the Hangzhou Anime Convention. This time, I cosplayed Janus! Although the convention hasn't officially opened yet, pre-production preparations are basically finished, so this photo set serves as my makeup and costume test. For the shoot, I selected a vintage carved wooden chair as the central prop, pairing it with a clean white cyclorama and blue-and-white faux flowers strewn on the floor to cultivate a serene, tranquil atmosphere. Because the character design incorporates white stockings, this series primarily emphasizes leg lines and the cascading layers of the dress in an alluring White tights cosplay aesthetic. To best showcase the stocking texture, I deliberately posed seated with legs crossed over each other; the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the background, letting the legs become the visual focal point.

The defining feature of this outfit is the off-the-shoulder ruffled neckline, which, accented by cat-ear headwear and a small tiara, beautifully frames facial contours and amplifies her adorable charm. The wig is a high-grade light blue that revealed a clear, translucent sheen under soft indoor lighting, requiring minimal color grading in post. During the session, I specifically reminded the photographer to watch the dress folds to prevent bunching that might look heavy. Compared to standing, sitting actually tests posture more—you must keep your core engaged and spine straight to project true elegance.

Considering the massive crowds at a Doujin Only convention, shoe selection required practical thought for easy mobility; while the pair worn in the photos is relatively light, the actual convention day might call for an even more walking-friendly option. Organized by Mengjie in Hangzhou, this Azur Lane Doujin Only event attracted countless fellow fans. As for the venue, the T-Car Auto Culture Theme Park offers diverse indoor and outdoor environments; the outdoor area framed by blue skies and palm trees is especially suited for swimwear or summer themes—much like my green-haired swimwear style in Photo 3—though for this shoot, I prepared this elegant blue-and-white aesthetic. If the weather holds up on event day, natural light will surely flatter skin tones.

Throughout the shoot, hand gestures demanded high precision—such as resting fingers naturally on the knee—while expressions needed an approachable gentleness. The garment was made of soft chiffon, keeping it breezy and comfortable for summer wear. Before heading out, I trimmed the wig bangs again to prevent them from obstructing vision. For faithful character representation, the true essence lies in garment nuances: the choker, neck ornaments, and pearl-finish headwear add tremendous polish in close-up shots. The hit rate of this set was quite solid, aligning cleanly with our initial concept. Documenting these moments of my Casual cosplay journey has been deeply rewarding, and I look forward to meeting photographers with great chemistry on-site to capture even more dynamic moments.
