[Viviana cosplay] The Candle Knight's Sea of Flowers and Pale Imagination

This set of photos for Viviana Ver.01 actually underwent quite a lot of refining regarding the character's temperament from initial preparation to final cuts. This time, we chose to conduct the Beijing photoshoot at the Reshaping Space Studio, setting the overall keynote on the core concept of "Pale Imagination," hoping to present an image of the Candle Knight that possesses both a sense of sacredness and a ghostly, cold ambiance.

Regarding the coordination of this look, the focus lies completely within that massive white hooded cloak and headpiece. The drape of the white hood's fabric needed to be handled perfectly—it couldn't look too flimsy and lose the crispness of a combat outfit, nor could it be propped up too rigidly. The rim framework supporting the hood, along with the black feather-like structures extending from behind and the orange-yellow embellishments, are highly recognizable elements. To restore the layers of that fantasy setting, the inner layer selected a tailored weave of black, white, and red; the bright red patchwork truly serves as an excellent focal highlight in the overall cool-toned frame, keeping the image from looking overly pale and monotonous.

The silver-grey longsword I held this time was also highly meticulous. The sword's weight distribution, the curved position of the hilt, and the annular interlocking design of the guard required seamless coordination with my hand movements during shooting. To capture the elegance of a "tactician" and "guardian," I deliberately held back from overly aggressive combat dynamics in my posing, opting instead for a posture of holding the sword horizontally with a slight tilt of the head. Paired with those light blue colored contacts, looking through the lens, the gaze needed to convey a sense of detachment while carrying a touch of a knight's resilience.

The foreground arrangement this time was a plan finalized through repeated communication between the photographer and us. A massive sweep of white flowers, paired with the large aperture bokeh effect of a macro lens, completely constructed that hazy, dreamlike atmosphere. The cool white-toned lighting cast upon the white sea of flowers and the silver sword blade formed an intense contrast against the deep-colored draping curtains in the background; this counterpoint beautifully brought out the character's facial contours and costume details.

Although this poster utilizes "Candle Knight" and those two lines of English poetry, "My days are bright and clear. My nights are filled with cheer," as layout elements, in the actual raw photos, this peaceful and tranquil ambiance heavily relies on the lighting. We tried several angles during the shoot, needing to ensure the sword's reflection wasn't piercing while guaranteeing the white highlights didn't overexpose, all while preserving the shadow details within the fabric folds. Cooperating as a cosplayer with the photographer to adjust positioning time and again was the only way to ultimately capture this clean, pure texture rich in depth.

Last time on social platforms, I saw someone say "surviving another year thanks to anime/manga (2D)." For me, searching for new ways of expression within various characters every year is indeed a form of recharging. Especially for a character with such high recognition like the Candle Knight, being able to try my best to restore her soul through costumes, makeup, props, and studio shoots—even if it's just a one-second freeze-frame—is an immensely satisfying creative experience. The shooting day was actually exhausting; my arm grew incredibly sore from holding the sword for so long, and applying the pale base makeup along with putting on and taking off these complex garments was highly time-consuming, but seeing the final output, all the hardships dissolved away. I hope this set of photos with a cool, pristine beauty allows everyone to see Viviana the Candle Knight from a different perspective.
