I finally got to wear this Dolia cosplay outfit at this convention! To recreate the fluid motion of water elements from the game, the costume utilized glossy, semi-translucent PVC fabric, layered step by step to mimic ocean crests, with the skirt hem accented by pearls, white seashells, and red starfish. While this glossy material reflects gorgeously under convention lighting, it is admittedly not very breathable, and walking around required extreme care to prevent the hem from snagging, tearing, or getting soiled.

The wig was a major challenge. The vibrant Blue wig with long curls is already eye-catching, but the signature loop-shaped ahoge on top required generous amounts of hairspray and an internal wire framework to keep its shape. White blossoms and cloud-like ornaments also had to be woven and anchored through the strands, making the details quite intricate. For makeup, to complement the ocean motif, I wore pinkish-blue contact lenses and painted delicate red scale textures at the outer eye corners and cheeks; the base was locked down firmly, holding up remarkably well without melting even after spending most of the day on the convention floor.

The convention venue was enormous with ample overhead lighting, though it leaned toward cooler tones; for a blue-themed Marine style cosplay, finding the right angle relative to the light sources was essential. I met several photographers on-site who were remarkably professional in framing candid captures. The water splash VFX in the first photo was added in post-production; during the shoot, I extended my arms as far as possible to mimic manipulating water currents, and pairing that with the splashing water effects in post really brought the atmosphere to life.

I personally love the full-body shot in Photo 4: I designed a pose kicking one leg backward, which let the layered skirt billow upward with momentum, fully showcasing the gradient hemline and overall tailoring. Many players on-site recognized the character and came over for photos and chats, complimenting the texture of the outfit. Walking and posing in this garment meant keeping a close eye on my center of gravity at all times, as the skirt is fairly voluminous and maintaining balance during dynamic jumps was vital to avoid tripping.

From pattern-making to wig styling, the entire prep took roughly two weeks. Achieving that blue-to-purple gradient on the skirt hem took multiple rounds of dyeing and fabric patchwork. Though the process was tedious, bringing this ocean-themed look to life on the convention floor and sharing it with everyone made every bit of effort worthwhile. Moving forward, I might explore fine-tuning some details for this character, such as improving prop durability for future outdoor location shoots.
