For this Kal'tsit cosplay, what demanded the most energy was actually the colossal mechanical rig. The apparatus on my back was assembled from multi-layered armor plating and mechanical wing vanes; its weight was formidable, requiring careful attention to the pressure points on my shoulders and back—otherwise, not only would fatigue set in rapidly, but my entire posture would collapse under the load. To project an upright, chillingly aloof presence before the lens, I incorporated hidden harness straps inside the garment to stabilize the wig and feline ears, ensuring that when walking or looking back over my shoulder, the silvery-white long hair would billow alongside the trench coat hem without tangling wildly.
The costume boasts rich structural layers: a white off-the-shoulder two-piece crop top featuring black strap details, layered beneath an oversized white long trench coat with an eye-catching yellowish-green lining. The lower half was paired with black over-the-knee Stockings and black heeled ankle boots with metallic buckles. Many might think trekking through muddy terrain in heeled boots and Stockings is pure agony, and it truly was—stepping across slippery gravel and murky puddle water required tentative probing with every stride to find my balance. Yet it was precisely this contrast between the clean Stockings and the rugged, muddy surroundings that gave the entire frame a compelling clash of Wasteland style sci-fi aesthetics.
The shoot was set in a desolate wetland terrain. The ground was strewn with rocks, withered reeds, and Originium crystals glowing with an ominous orange hue. The most challenging shots involved standing directly in stagnant water. The water had to submerge my soles while rippling into pristine concentric rings. To freeze that split-second splash and reflection—almost like Walking on water by moonlight—I had to repeatedly lift and lower my foot in the frigid water while timing the billowing angle of the trench coat in the wind. Collaborating on lighting, the photographer skillfully allowed the ambient orange glow to reflect off the water's surface, lending cinematic depth to the scene.
For the final close-up, glitch art and chromatic aberration effects were added in post-production. This treatment aligned seamlessly with the character's sci-fi nature. When tweaking the RGB channel shifts, I deliberately preserved the crisp contours of the costume and the tactile texture of the animal ears, ensuring the visual effects served the subject rather than overpowering it. From the overarching color palette to the fine prop details, the whole shoot felt less like posing and more like conducting an authentic patrol through a living Wasteland style world. Standing in the mud for hours under the crushing weight of mechanical wings took a heavy toll, but seeing the finished interplay of light and shadow made every ounce of physical exertion completely worthwhile for this Arknights Kal'tsit cosplay.
