[Emu Otori Cosplay] Recreating That High-Energy Vibe at the Project Sekai Convention

That high-energy vibe belonging to Emu Otori became completely materialized the moment I changed into this classic gray sailor uniform and pink cardigan. A lot of homework went into the details of this featured look: as an iconic outfit in Project Sekai, the color clash of the gray uniform and pink knit cardigan looks both gentle and lively, while the yellow smiley face badge on the collar instantly brings out the character's essence. To be honest, though, what bothered me most about this look was the hair color. This Pink short hair wig carries a subtle sheen under natural light, making it easy to look artificial under convention overhead lights or flashes. The lighting on site wasn't actually perfect, but thanks to photographer @Pulao411 working hard to adjust lighting angles, these Convention photos presented a natural and three-dimensional texture. Many say the three key elements of cosplay portrait photography never lie, and this time I truly experienced it firsthand.

Shooting Convention photos in an environment like an anime convention is actually much harder to control than studio shoots. The surroundings are crowded and noisy, and venue backgrounds are often chaotic—either a giant dark backdrop or unavoidable passersby and random props. Taking this set of photos took over an hour; we specifically found a relatively quiet spot in a venue corner, using the light-colored checkered floor tiles as a compositional base. Combining horizontal and vertical lines, we strived to blend the pink, gray, and white on the character into a clean atmosphere. During the shoot, the photographer was great at guiding me to relax rather than rigidly holding poses. For instance, pinching hair tips on both sides, posing with hands on hips, or punching/pointing forward were all interpreted by combining Emu Otori's usual lively, straightforward, and slightly playful personality traits. While pinching hair in Photos 1 and 4 is very cute, the perspective in Photo 5—with one leg slightly bent and a hand pointing forward toward the lens—is actually more dynamic and eye-catching, perfectly grabbing immediate attention as a cover photo.

I must mention the feel of this gear in a real convention setting: the gray pleated skirt paired with a white Over-the-knee socks outfit. This standard student uniform combination is actually quite demanding on body proportions, but the upper-body presentation turned out fantastic, visually elongating my legs while perfectly fitting the youthful, vibrant tone of 2D characters. While posing, I also tried my best to utilize the drape of the skirt hem and cardigan to enhance dynamic beauty in frame. Ultimately, the most crucial aspect of cosplaying is matching temperament; although I stood alone in front of the lens, I kept imagining her expressions when meeting her friends, allowing the captured state to look far more natural than forced poses.

Lastly, I want to praise the quality texture of this outfit—the pink cardigan material is super comfortable, perfect for the heavily air-conditioned hall, and the pocket design is very thoughtful for storing small convention items, leaving me feeling not too tired after shooting all afternoon. This shoot mainly aimed for a relaxed, everyday convention photo feel, where wearing the right costume goes hand in hand with capturing the character's spirit to the core. Overall, these five photos present Emu Otori's image from various angles, capturing both her playful, silly side as well as her serious pointing or high-energy postures. I hope everyone can feel that vitality and cuteness unique to her in Project Sekai through these frozen moments.
