[Robin Cosplay] BW2024 Convention Photos: Backlit Stage Vibes

The convention photos from Bilibili World 2024 (BW2024) have finally been sorted out. During the shoot, the venue environment was much more complex than expected; powerful overhead hall lighting shone directly down, and with attendees constantly walking by, taking a clean photo away from the noisy background wasn't easy. However, the photographer on site made great use of that intense backlight. Light filtered through the broad feather wings and the edges of the metallic halo overhead, outlining a crisp silhouette that filled the entire photo with a stage-like atmosphere.

For this character's outfit, many details required extra attention on site. Although the floating halo above my head was designed to be light, keeping it relatively stable amidst the crowded convention traffic meant constantly adjusting my posture. While the white feather wings on my back supported the overall aura in final photos, wearing them placed quite a heavy burden on my back, requiring extra caution when turning around to avoid bumping into passersby or booth edges. The long staff in my hand was not only an important prop, but also a key anchor helping keep my posture upright. Its moderate weight naturally prompted me to engage my arm and back core, making my standing pose more poised.

Among the two photos shared this time, the full-body shot composition perfectly retained the blue-and-white paneling details of the skirt hem and matching shoes. The backlighting gave the skirt edges a sense of fluid movement while showcasing the leg lines and overall standing posture. The half-body shot focused more on displaying the neckline accessories, star patterns, and detached sleeve design. Complementing each other, these two photos brought out the key visual elements of the complete cosplay outfit.

At the convention, the greatest joy actually lay in interacting with the environment. The blurred silhouettes in the background were indeed attendees who paused to watch. Their casual entry into the frame actually stripped away any unnatural staged feel, adding a touch of live performance realism. Performing this Honkai: Star Rail character at a vibrant convention inherently felt like being on stage, where surrounding crowds felt like an audience below—an immersive experience studio shoots can hardly replicate.

This shooting practice also sparked new thoughts on the quality of convention photos. Photography is not just about aperture and shutter speed; it's a dialogue between light and fabric texture. A character's presentation depends on both 3D tailoring and how well on-site lighting aligns with shooting angles. Recording and sharing these authentic moments documents the hard work and preparation over those two convention days, marking a deeply meaningful freeze-frame for this summer.
