Here is the behind-the-scenes and final showcase sharing of this Specter cosplay set. The core concept of this shoot lies in recreating the character's cold, sharp tactical style, as well as the sense of interaction with that giant chainsaw prop. In the grand space environment of the anime convention venue, the towering ceiling and the floor reflections provided an excellent foundation for the shoot.
For the styling coordination, I chose a white-hair and red-eyes makeup plan, striving to present a firm and slightly scrutinizing gaze through the combination of colored contact lenses and the wig. Regarding the costume, the centerpiece is a large hooded robe in a gray-and-black color scheme. This outfit features goggle details at the collar, and the hood has a premium texture. I initially thought pure gray-and-black would look a bit monotonous, but those few strands of irregular blue fabric pieced out from beneath the coat became the visual highlight of the entire outfit, breaking up the gloom while adding a layer of depth during dynamic walking or jumping.
The props were where we put the most effort this time. This long-handled chainsaw greatsword's length even exceeds my height. To ensure I could flexibly control it with one or both hands during the shoot, I adjusted the weight distribution of the prop's grip, shifting its center of gravity closer to the hands. It was made from lightweight materials, so when lifting the weapon or resting the saw blade against the ground for support, it didn't consume excessive physical stamina to maintain balance. During the sitting pose shoot, this saw blade naturally stood on the ground, becoming an extension of the body and making the composition look more stable and full.
The shoot itself was a process of searching for split seconds within a bustling exhibition hall full of passing people. The photographer's snapshots were quite on point, encouraging me to maintain a natural pacing during walking and preparation rather than forcing me to repeatedly fumble with a single pose for too long. The first set of dynamic standing poses required spreading out my arms to make the front hem of the coat fly up, coordinated with the action of lifting one leg to increase visual tension. Meanwhile, the subsequent set of photos sitting on a small black high stool completely switched to a relaxed state, casually standing the chainsaw weapon beside me and focusing my center of gravity on leaning my legs, which looks much more confident and composed. The multi-buckle design of the boots was also beautifully displayed when sitting down, making the leg lines look sleeker.
The live lighting was relatively complex, but the cool-toned light source coming from the top of the convention hall looked amazing hitting the props and hair. Along with the reflections on the glossy floor, it gave the entire frame a lot more playability. The close-up photo focused on carving out the details of the upper body, including the goggles, hair strands, and the blurred background lights, all wrapping the character in a touch of mystery.
Although having this big guy around was a burden, the entire workflow proceeded quite smoothly when coordinated with the prepared styling. We didn't intentionally strive to display an extreme sense of raw power, but leaned more toward that peace and sharpness that comes after experiencing combat. This combination of hardcore gear and the character's innate traits yields great photos from all angles. Overall, it was a very tiring but highly immersive attempt, and the final presented visual effects successfully reached the level I had hoped for in these convention photos.
