[Flandre Scarlet Cosplay] Gothic Maiden of Red Apples and Rainbow Crystals in Touhou Project

This Flandre Scarlet Cosplay look from Touhou Project overall adopts a black and red Gothic style cosplay design, with a lot of thought put into materials and details for these Convention photos. The lace-ruffled mob cap on the head and the black and red fabric stitching create distinct visual layering. Slightly wavy short golden hair paired with red-eye makeup faithfully restores the character's unique sense of mystery.

Black translucent lace material is used on the puffy lantern sleeves, where layered fabrics reveal a subtle see-through effect under light. Meanwhile, I paired it with a very structured black leather corset, whose zipper and front lacing hole details can be seen clearly in the photos. Because the corset wraps tightly, moving around and posing actually places high demands on core strength, but these are necessary sacrifices to present a crisp silhouette. The dark red velvet and white lace edging around the neck serve as a wonderful color transition, preventing the overall tone from looking overly dull.

Prop accessories were also a major focus of this look. The red apple held in hand is vibrant and lustrous, standing out remarkably against the dark clothing and makeup to form a strong visual focal point. Extending from both sides of the body are branch-like wing props hanging geometric polyhedral crystal pendants in red, yellow, cyan, purple, pink, and other tones. Under the venue's lighting, these colored crystals cast clear, vibrant reflections onto the flat, shiny floor, enhancing the image's color richness. This prop setup requires absolute balance when static, so adjusting the center of gravity on set was a critical step for these Convention photos.

For makeup design, red blushes around the eyes and the red-eye effect were deliberately emphasized, where a slightly aloof expression paired with this gorgeous Lolita dress creates a strong anime-style atmosphere. The original large black skirt combines dark red jacquard fabric with white lace trim; the skirt fabric is quite heavy, requiring it to be fully spread out when sitting or kneeling to deliver the best visual effect. Especially in crowded environments like conventions, keeping the skirt fluffy without creating unwanted creases is a minor styling challenge.

During the photoshoot for these Convention photos, ambient lighting shifted considerably, placing high demands on the photographer to capture the lace texture of the skirt hem and the crystal refractions. However, the final photos preserved the smooth luster of the red apple, the clarity of the crystals, and the texture of the leather corset very well. Whether half-body close-ups or full-body sitting compositions on the floor, both nicely showcased the essence of this work. Preparation for the entire look took a long time—from wig trimming and styling, fine-tuning makeup details, to adjusting the costume fit—spending several hours in total, but successfully filming and capturing records at the convention made the whole experience very enjoyable. Main effort went into researching how to keep various costume parts balanced and restoring classic character poses, especially holding up the red apple, which required just the right hand pressure so as not to disrupt the sleeve's drape.
