[Flandre Scarlet Cosplay] A playful moment in a red and white dress at the national anime convention

This set of Flandre Scarlet Cosplay photos shot at the national anime convention took quite a bit of energy from early preparation to the final output. The costume selected this time is the iconic red and white multi-layered pleated dress. To match the character's temperament, a fabric with a certain hardness was specially selected so that the skirt hem could maintain a nice fluffiness during movements, paired with a white ruffled mob cap, offering highly rich visual layers.

In terms of props, the brown teddy bear and the string of diamond crystal decorations behind the back are the soul of this look. The plush texture of the teddy bear happens to neutralize the visual impact of the red dress, adding a lot of approachability when holding it. The black branch structure on the back, hung with iridescent diamond crystals, refracts light spots of various colors under the natural light from the top of the exhibition hall, fitting perfectly with the kind of fantastical and casual feel in this character setting.

For the makeup, to get closer to the character's setting, I specially used red colored contacts and paired them with a fair base to make the skin tone look more transparent. The blonde curly wig was also intentionally combed into fluffy wavy curves to match the headpiece, giving a very strong anime cosplay feel.

The shooting was completed in cooperation with photographer Wakaba at the convention. The lighting on site was quite complex with very strong top lighting, so we needed to grasp the angles well to avoid overexposure. The first full-body photo is relatively relaxed, mainly displaying the props and overall coordination; the second half-body close-up is used to emphasize the makeup, styling, and demeanor, attempting to capture that slightly innocent and curious gaze; I really like the third dynamic candid shot standing on one leg, where the action of lightly lifting the skirt hem beautifully showcases the layers of the entire outfit, as well as the detailed pairing of the red strapped chunky leather shoes with the ruffled white socks; the fourth photo switches to a perspective of resting while sitting on a black folding ladder, with a dark-toned bat silhouette pattern added in post-processing as an embellishment, giving the frame a bit more playfulness and fun.

Although the convention had a huge flow of people on the shooting day and the background often appeared cluttered, we locked the focus firmly on the figure and props by using a wide aperture to blur the distant crowds and truss structures. Shooting characters of this fantasy style requires a good grasp of demeanor, needing to switch back and forth between adorable cluelessness and cleverness. The final output effect is quite satisfying; the details of the clothes, the texture of the crystals, and the performance of the hairstyle in front of the lens all reached the expected restoration level. Being able to showcase the charm of this character through light and shadow at the vast convention venue is indeed a highly memorable experience in my cosplayer career.
