[Phrolova cosplay] Eating delicious sushi at Shenzhen Anime Festival

Today's schedule at the Shenzhen Anime Festival was packed tight, so during a midday break, my partner and I quickly found a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant to grab lunch. This time I cosplayed Phrolova; to stay true to the character's aura, adjusting the wig and that black eyepatch alone took quite a while in the morning. Once the eyepatch was on, the restricted field of vision was rather noticeable, but this signature trait gives the entire look unmistakable recognition. To complement the silver-white short hair, I specifically chose a choker adorned with red roses and a black-and-red top, while my partner wore an outfit featuring white lace and ruffles. Sitting together in our black-and-white contrast created a striking visual impact.

After sitting down, the first thing we did was order through the tablet. Looking at the pictures of various sushi on the screen, I honestly wanted to try everything. In the end, we ordered salmon nigiri, seared cheese sushi, and two bowls of rich, savory ramen. While waiting for the food to arrive, I used the restaurant's glass partitions to check my wig and eyepatch, making sure my makeup hadn't smudged. After a busy morning running around the convention, being able to sit down and enjoy a hot meal was pure bliss. When the ramen was served steaming hot, the soft-boiled egg and sliced pork looked utterly appetizing. Wearing a wig and an eyepatch meant eating with extreme caution to avoid staining the costume or bumping the patch; my partner even teased me, saying that even while eating, I maintained the character's aloof coolness, with every chopstick movement picking up sushi looking exceptionally deliberate.

In truth, when cosplaying Phrolova, my biggest challenge is capturing her subtle demeanor. She carries a distinct sense of detachment, yet in everyday settings, you don't want to come across as overly stiff. When taking this photo, I tried to blend the character's presence into an authentic, lived-in state. For instance, the waving gesture needed to reflect the character's habits without appearing staged. We sat by the counter with other dining guests behind us, and this everyday, bustling backdrop created a delightful contrast with our cosplay attire. While savoring delicious sushi, my partner and I chatted about our takeaways from shooting convention photos earlier, discussing lighting and composition. The atmosphere at Shenzhen Anime Festival was fantastic; seeing so many elaborate props and costumes sparked fresh creative inspiration for my upcoming projects.

This meal was deeply satisfying—the sushi was fresh and flavorful, and the ramen broth was rich and comforting. Although eating in public while in full cosplay draws occasional curious glances from passersby, everyone was very friendly. Since we had to head back to the anime festival floor for the afternoon, we didn't linger too long. After finishing our meal, touching up makeup, and smoothing out the wig, we got ready to keep exploring the halls. Every time I attend a convention, the greatest joy is experiencing these everyday moments in character. Although Phrolova's attire is somewhat intricate—especially the eyepatch and choker—the final result felt entirely worthwhile.
