At this convention, I finally got to shoot the convention photos for Lady Yuyuko's Lolita dress from Touhou Project. The layers of the clothes are extremely numerous, and it took a lot of time to adjust them when wearing, especially the lace at the neckline and cuffs, which had to be smoothed out layer by layer, otherwise, it would look bulky in photos. The soft hat on the head is the same; to secure the purple ribbon and the lace on the edge, quite a few bobby pins were used. The folding fan in hand is the finishing touch of the entire outfit, with white lace edges and a pink gradient cherry blossom pattern, which looks very textured under the overhead lights of the convention hall. To make the fan show a nice light and shadow effect, I deliberately looked for some fill light angles during the shoot, utilizing the material of the fan surface to reflect light, and the colors straight out of the camera were already very clear and translucent. The bangs of the wig were trimmed to length, and paired with red eye makeup, it better highlights the character's cold yet elegant feel in front of the lens. The single-leg standing pose in the first picture actually tests the center of gravity; the long skirt hem and wide bell sleeves can easily look visually heavy, so we had to use the fluttering feel of the skirt to balance it. The second picture features a crossed-leg pose sitting on a folding chair, mainly to showcase the purple inner-lining layers beneath the skirt hem as well as the leg lines. The lighting at the convention site is relatively complex, and the background is also cluttered, so most of the time we used a wide aperture to blur the background, keeping the visual focus concentrated on the costume and the character's state. This multi-layered lace Lolita style is actually quite inconvenient to walk around in the convention hall, and it often gets snagged by other photographers' equipment or passersby's bags, but for the ultimate refinement of these convention photos, all this trouble is totally worth it. Every convention photoshoot involves finding the right angles in a noisy environment, and the texture of this outfit was wonderfully presented under the lens.
