[Ganyu Cosplay] Genshin Impact: The Dreamscape of Liyue's Half-Adeptus

To bring out the best in this Genshin Impact Ganyu shoot, tremendous thought and effort went into the pre-production phase. From curating the costume to selecting the location, every single detail was aimed at aligning closely with the character's temperament. Ganyu has always felt to me like someone serene, gentle, yet carrying an innate sense of divinity. Therefore, in terms of styling, I chose a modernized blue-and-white dress with a lightweight, fluid cut. The purple undergarment and the golden bell pendant at the neckline are the soul of the look, and the iconic over-the-knee Stockings with purple-and-black trim were an absolute must. To showcase that delicate, semi-sheer texture, I carefully adjusted the placement of the thigh bands during the shoot so they flattered the leg lines without feeling abrupt.

Styling the wig was an extensive project. The long, light-blue wavy hair featuring darker gradient streaks, combined with the signature black-and-red horns on top, required intricate braiding and anchoring. To make the hair look as natural as possible, I smoothed out the curves of the strands with a flat iron. Paired with a translucent white veil, it created that lovely billowing effect where the strands and veil fluttered together with every movement. To prevent the hair fibers from looking artificial under bright lights, we placed a rim light from a side-back angle to soften the hair texture. For makeup, blue-gray contact lenses were key, complemented by a soft reddish gradient around the eyes and a slightly elongated winged liner, aiming to achieve that translucent, unearthly aura on camera. The base makeup pursued a porcelain, cool-toned complexion, using highlighter very sparingly just to bring out the three-dimensional contours of the nose bridge and under-eye area.

The shoot took place in an exquisitely constructed indoor studio. The backdrop featured abundant light-blue sheer drapery and silver beaded curtains, while the reflective floor was scattered with pastel pink and blue petals. For lighting, we utilized cool tones paired with softboxes, attempting to sculpt a dreamy interplay of light and shadow reminiscent of rippling water. When balancing the illumination, the photography director deliberately added warm golden light behind the beaded curtains; the warm-and-cool contrast added rich depth to the scene.

The giant blue butterfly prop in my hands was my absolute favorite element. Whether holding and admiring it on a white wrought-iron chair or leaning languidly against the floor, the butterfly enriched the frame and enhanced the sense of storytelling interaction. In the second photo where I sat on the chair with legs crossed and reaching forward, the director reminded me to keep my arches slightly pointed, making the transition between the white high heels and leg lines look seamless. When shooting this subtly alluring style, movements should remain poised and relaxed with the center of gravity tilted slightly back, while facial expressions must stay calm and understated—never overly seductive, strictly honoring her otherworldly persona. Holding a large bouquet of blue blossoms, I relaxed my shoulders, tucked my chin slightly, and gazed into the lens through the petals with a focused yet soft look.

Although moving on the reflective flooring required constant care against slipping, and the flare of the dress hem needed continuous adjustments to avoid wardrobe malfunctions, seeing the luminous glow and polished completion of the final photos made every bit of effort worthwhile. I hope this interpretation of the character's aesthetic and mood allows everyone to feel that gentle tenderness Ganyu possesses beyond her lore.
