To resonate with the holiday's theme, I prepared an illuminated moon sphere prop paired with expansive white feathered wings on my back, aiming to project a serene, otherworldly mystique. Portraying Columbina from Genshin Impact involves intricate garment layering: the outer blue-and-white gradient gossamer skirt is feather-light, but ensuring it billowed naturally during movement required reinforcing the waistband and inner lining with structural stays. The crescent-moon metallic waist ornament was custom molded—carrying substantial weight—so I reinforced it with three layers of hidden snap fasteners to keep it locked firmly in place.

The wig features a two-tone black-and-pink gradient; styling the pink streaks across the bangs and side tendrils demanded painstaking sectioning and slicing, taking nearly two hours of prep alone. To keep the sweeping locks arched crisply, I used liberal amounts of heavy-duty hairspray, ensuring the silhouette held firm without collapsing even after a long day traversing the convention floor. For eye makeup, pale-toned contact lenses were paired with muted gray-violet eyeshadow to mirror her tranquil, aloof expression, maintaining disciplined micro-expressions before the camera to avoid looking stiff.

While shooting within the convention halls, the greatest physical challenge stemmed from the leg strapping and barefoot design. The white ribbons were cross-laced up my calves, secured along the inner side with double-sided tape to prevent slippage. Without shoes, walking barefoot over the exhibition floor was undeniably unforgiving; however, that tactile choice allowed the leg lines in the first levitating pose and the second standing frame with outstretched arms to shine with complete fidelity. Holding the illuminated moon sphere in the first shot also required care: the built-in lamp generated noticeable heat, demanding continual repositioning of my fingers to avoid blocking the light without burning my skin.

The venue's exposed steel roof trusses and cool-toned ambient lighting matched the garment's ethereal aesthetic seamlessly. The photographer shot from an ultra-low angle, imbuing the silhouette with heightened presence and scale. In post-production, the distracting convention background was darkened, isolating the luminous moon and the flowing blue-and-white gossamer. Nailing these precise frames amid dense convention crowds was no easy feat, requiring directed guidance from the photographer alongside constant muscular tension on my part. For instance, during jumps or faux-levitation takes, pointing the instep firmly was essential to project effortless weightlessness. Though the wings were crafted from lightweight plumes and EVA foam, navigating crowded aisles meant dodging stray backpacks; shielding the prop forced me to sidestep slowly, pausing frequently to reshape ruffled feathers.

Pre-production across wardrobe and prop making spanned over a month—from fabric sourcing and pattern cutting down to every individual ribbon strap. To ensure vivid color payoff, fabric selection received immense care: the outer layer utilizes pearlescent semi-sheer gossamer, layered over a matte white cropped foundation. Under studio lighting, this allowed the blue-and-white gradient to cast an elusive, shimmering translucency. Gilded accents at the chest and ribbon strapping broke up the pure white tones, adding rich dimensional depth. The moon sphere prop was hand-sculpted with cratered textural ridges to simulate lunar rock, fitted internally with warm-toned LED strips. During airborne takes, this warm spill illuminated my face, crafting a striking warm-versus-cool contrast against the venue's icy ambient hues.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is fundamentally an ode to the moon, and this entire set ties intimately into lunar themes from color palette to prop design. Despite how exhausting convention photography can be, reviewing the completed deliverables makes every ounce of effort worthwhile.
