I finally got my hands on this set of Gongsun Li photos, and I'm thrilled to share the styling nuances and behind-the-scenes stories with everyone.
I modeled for this session myself. As a veteran player of Honor of Kings, Gongsun Li has always been one of my favorite characters. Her spirited, nimble nature paired with a touch of aloof elegance deeply captivates me. To faithfully recreate this character, I did extensive preparation ranging from initial garment selection to later shoot choreography. The phrase in the caption—'red leaves hold the deepest longing, a dance sent with yearning'—reflects my personal understanding of her emotional depth. Through this session, I hoped to channel that very feeling through the lens.
First, let's talk about the wardrobe styling. The peach-orange long locks paired with a white bunny-ear headband immediately anchored the core character hallmarks. The upper ensemble features a cropped jacket primarily in red and orange, layered over a white shoulder drape with gilded trim and anchored by a black fitted bodysuit beneath, creating rich textural depth. The lower half consists of black trousers with teardrop cutouts along both thighs and striking gilded leaf motifs near the cuffs. On my feet were red platform shoes topped with fluffy white pom-poms, which not only boosted height but also added an adorable flair to the silhouette. In hand was a traditional oil-paper umbrella in alternating red and orange hues—the ultimate soul prop of this look. To elevate her presence, I paired the attire with a black choker and a gilded drop pendant.
The shoot spanned three distinct setups. The first was an outdoor afternoon scene under lovely sunshine, sitting atop a stone stump bench beside a flagstone pathway. With sunlight grazing across my figure, the fallen autumn leaves echoed the traditional Chinese stone railings and gray tiled roofs in the background, creating a naturally poetic courtyard ambiance. To showcase the nuances of the outfit, I picked several seated stances that highlighted the leg lines, sleek Stockings textures, and waist cutouts.
The second setup had me standing on wooden plank flooring while unfurling the umbrella. I adore this scene because once opened, the vibrant red-orange palette commanded instant visual attention. I fine-tuned my shoulder posture and leg angles to keep my body relaxed and gracefully extended, while highlighting the golden embroidery on the cuffs and shoe details. The lighting was delightfully soft, and the stone walls and wooden plaque in the background added authentic realism.
The third scene was the night shoot. Night photography is always the most demanding: with limited ambient illumination, heavy fill lighting is required. I leaned against deep-toned wooden railings against the shadowy silhouettes of classic architecture. Although the background was dark, it made the subject stand out with crisp clarity. I furled the umbrella for the night set, leaning into the balustrade with a more tranquil, contemplative expression. Posing through platform shoes and fitted pants across these scenes tested both stamina and balance, but seeing the finished frames made every ounce of effort worthwhile.
As a cosplayer, I believe garment fidelity, prop coordination, and scenic choices form the cornerstone of great photography. Wrapping this shoot smoothly owes so much to the photographer's patient direction and our crew's assistance. Scouted angles often required darting back and forth, and the thigh cutouts easily shifted during action, requiring constant micro-adjustments to ensure tight, flattering visual lines.
Every stage from preparation to wrapping was filled with joy. I hope everyone enjoys this Gongsun Li portrayal, and I will continue pushing forward to explore more diverse looks!
