This photo set from my Japanese anime convention trip turned out to be a very satisfying night session, especially regarding the lighting atmosphere. Since acosta! Hirakata Park happened to feature its first winter illumination night lights, located in Osaka, the venue streets were decorated with brilliant winter lights that day. The venue's soft and layered ambient dark lighting laid a great foundation for the photos.
During the shoot, we specifically picked a spot near high-saturation neon signboards. By leveraging the overlapping light and shadows together with the photographer's large-aperture lens, we created large patches of orange and purple bokeh in the background. This dreamy bokeh built a scene that felt wonderfully fitting for the slightly magical world of Genshin Impact. As for costume details, Lynette's character design itself is very distinctive. The white shirt, glossy black leather corset, and blue-black checkered bow tie on the chest—the combination of these elements tests the tailor's accuracy. I paid special attention to the bright blue trim along the edge of the skirt and the side pleat design of the leather top. The real-life materials this time were handled impeccably, and the texture of the leather reflected beautifully under neon lights.
The wig chosen was a slightly wavy short braided style, paired with the cute cat ears on top and her iconic big ribbon. Under the lighting, the hair strands looked soft, fluffy, and lustrous. Accessories like the fingerless gloves, sleeves, and red cord accents were also meticulously arranged before shooting. The makeup went for a clean and clear look, complemented by eyeshadow that elongated the outer corners of the eyes and violet-blue contact lenses, making the gaze look lively and focused. To highlight the character's personality, the photographer used an extremely low angle and a wide-angle lens, giving the person standing right in front of the camera a powerful sense of perspective impact.
Holding the prop in her right hand extending forward, combined with leaning her body center of gravity slightly backward, filled the entire photo with a dynamic readiness to strike. This stretching effect unique to wide-angle lenses not only reinforced the manga-like feel of the shot but also broke the rigidity of traditional static poses. Night convention lighting is often chaotic, but the photographer skillfully utilized the surrounding neon ambient light while adding soft fill light with an on-camera flash, beautifully outlining her face and the contours of the cat ears. High ISO was used to ensure a shutter speed fast enough to capture movement without introducing noticeable noise, preserving the unique film-grain texture characteristic of night photography.
The details of the black stockings had fantastic expressiveness under the light. Paired with the high-waisted cut of the short skirt, the leg lines appeared slender under the wide-angle perspective, which was a visual effect I was very satisfied with. In fact, every time I attend a major anime convention, managing makeup, styling wigs, and repeatedly checking costume fit takes a lot of time. While night shoots yield stunning results, the physical exhaustion is definitely greater. Fortunately, the lighting ambiance on site that day was fantastic, and the flowing neon lights naturally put me into a very relaxed shooting state.
The photographer's post-processing mindset also aligned perfectly with my ideas—avoiding excessive skin smoothing and filters, preserving original night colors while moderately brightening shadows, so that the character's facial contours and costume textures were well retained. Overall, enhanced by the neon light and shadow, this Genshin Impact Lynette Cosplay photoshoot was truly special. It is not merely a set of photos, but a beautiful memory of a convention night preserved through the right techniques at a specific time and place. I didn't try to force overly exaggerated poses; rather, I hoped that through this natural yet tension-filled imagery, viewers could feel the vivid and lively ACG atmosphere of the moment.
