The theme of this shoot is "The Unmoving Great Library," and choosing this setting couldn't have been more perfect. To recreate the setting of her daily reading in the library, extensive preparations were made in terms of costume, makeup, and props. This vintage light purple long wig and headpiece, paired with an extremely complex multi-layered ruffled dress, took nearly two hours just to put on and tidy up the lace and flower decorations in every corner. Especially the structure of the headpiece required repeated adjustments to ensure it remained upright and layered whether looking up or looking down to read a book, which was absolutely crucial for the final texture of the photos.
The shooting location was selected in this vintage library study filled with a classical atmosphere. The wooden bookshelves and furnishings filled with old hardcover books greatly enriched the narrative of the frame. During the shoot, we experimented with many different states. For example, leaning over a map table to study carefully with a magnifying glass, or sitting on a heavy leather sofa holding a thick ancient book to read, and even boldly trying a shot of climbing onto a high bookshelf to sit suspended. The light while sitting on the bookshelf was truly amazing; the overhead light shone on the hair and the book, creating a wonderful atmosphere where time stood still.
Of course, the few movements holding the magnifying glass and quill pen were also quite fun. This purple version of the costume presented a soft matte texture in front of the lens. Coordinated with the warm ambient light set up by the lighting technician, it made the entire setting of the Great Library highly full and rich. In terms of props, a brass globe and a vintage phonograph were used; the addition of these details made every corner of this study seem to hide secrets. Although during the shoot, due to the skirt being too puffy, I encountered a little trouble while climbing the bookshelf, fortunately, we successfully completed this interesting composition. For post-processing, we preserved the original vintage tones, slightly darkened the vignettes to highlight the visual center, and the final state of this cosplay photoshoot is something I am very satisfied with.
Shooting while wearing this highly layered classical dress actually consumes a lot of physical stamina, especially at the camera position sitting on the bookshelf, where I needed to maintain body balance while displaying a calm posture of reading a book. However, seeing the final photos, all the hard work became completely worth it. When sorting through this set of photos today, I felt as if I had returned once again to that afternoon filled with the fragrance of books and a magical aura, hoping that this Lolita photography work can convey the quiet charm of this character immersed in the sea of books in my mind. The roleplay preparation this time was quite thorough, from wig styling to makeup details, everything tried to match the setting as much as possible, hoping this work can bring everyone some sense of immersion as if being inside a library.
