[Komeiji Koishi cosplay] Psychokinesis of Touhou Project: Wanting to Hide Behind You for Hide-and-Seek

Receiving the official set of Convention photos from the AM03 event gave me a subtle feeling, especially as it coincided with May 14th (514), making it feel uniquely attuned to my current mindset. This set of photos is more than a simple venue check-in; to some extent, it represents a deeper understanding and re-creation of Touhou Project and the character Komeiji Koishi.

The hair and makeup this time were fully handled by Mumu, perfectly fitting the character's intrinsic traits. The light cyan-green short wig had just the right curl, which, paired with the pale gold bow on the black wide-brimmed hat, created a look that felt both airy and playful. The eye makeup emphasized green pupils alongside moderate blush, allowing one to instantly step into character while displaying an extremely vibrant complexion.

The details of the costume deserve a closer look. A pale yellow loose blouse featuring black pleated lace trimming on the collar and cuffs created a classic color-blocking contrast. The blouse fabric carried a subtle sheen, presenting impressive material texture under cool studio lighting without looking cheap or synthetic. The skirt silhouette was my favorite design element: dark green jacquard fabric covered with exquisite subtle patterns, bordered by golden woven braiding, and finished with black wavy lace and 3D floral accents at the bottom—wonderfully layered, soft yet impactful. Shiny platform loafers paired with black tights visually elongated leg lines effortlessly.

The prop design was genuinely intriguing. The metallic blue sphere at the chest connected to light blue tubing wrapping around the body, extending all the way down to a purple line reaching the shoes. This ensemble was not only visually captivating but also served during the shoot to create dynamic limb extensions. While shooting that final pose with one foot raised, the length and angle of the purple line required meticulous adjustment to avoid a cluttered look.

Conceptually, the posing reflected the character's fondness for hide-and-seek, leading us to intentionally choose lighthearted, playful poses. In the first shot, hopping on one foot while reaching out to point the prop knife at the camera, complemented by holding the purple tubing with the left hand, preserved a young girl's agility while evoking an illusion that she might pop up right behind you at any moment—echoing the opening line, \"I'm right behind you.\"

Beyond dynamic poses, the sitting-kneeling shot holding the hat appeared gentler and more tranquil; paired with soft lighting, it highlighted makeup delicacy while allowing the skirt to fan out fully. Meanwhile, the shot pressing the knife against her jaw with a direct gaze into the lens instantly shifted the atmosphere toward her lore-accurate coldness and mystery. Navigating these emotional transitions was no easy feat, requiring repeated discussions on angles and facial expressions with photographer Gunzi. Gunzi captured candid moments with pinpoint accuracy; a wide aperture blurred the background environment to isolate the foreground subject, while diffused natural light filtering through windows conferred an airy, breathing texture to the photo set, keeping overall brightness impeccably controlled during Convention photography.

While organizing these photos, I couldn't help but reflect on May 14th (514) again. This date holds special emotional resonance for this character and work. Standing in the brightly lit convention hall, wearing the black hat, the dress, and platform shiny loafers, I felt that an authentic portrayal goes beyond recreating appearance—it's about conveying her unique caprice through body language and expression. For instance, holding the knife wasn't meant to display aggression, but rather an unpredictability starkly contrasting with her outward demeanor.

I have always valued the texture presented in social media Convention photo shares. Due to complex venue lighting involving both camera-top flashes and background natural light, we strived to avoid harsh shadows, faithfully replicating makeup hues and costume fabric textures. I hope those viewing these photos can feel, through static imagery, that lively yet slightly quirky cute essence of the character in Anime cosplay. The color combination—light green, lemon yellow, dark green, and black—remains the most visually enduring aspect of this character design.

The shooting day was busy yet immensely fulfilling; Mumu's makeup and hairstyling held up remarkably well throughout multiple events, while photographer Gunzi patiently guided me toward my most natural state. Beyond standing poses, we captured half-body close-ups to showcase the finest garment details. Cosplaying this character brings me immense joy, and her distinctive presence makes Komeiji Koishi cosplay perfectly suited for capturing memorable moments via Convention photo logs during anime conventions or special anniversaries.

Looking back, from the moment I stepped into the studio, I was already immersing myself in character. Every skirt flutter, every adjustment to cuff lace, and every moment holding a prop was an effort to align with her personality. Wig curvature, bow tightness, and even the positioning of the blue sphere on the dress affect the final output quality. I hope this dedicated passion translates through the lens straight to your screen.
