When shooting this Kinako cosplay in a Cat girl swimsuit, it happened to be at the Anime convention outdoor venue. The weather was muggy, but the lighting was very comfortable. The core of this look is the crisp blue and white color scheme combined with the fluffy animal ears and a big tail. The overall visual center of gravity is very clear, so during the shoot, we deliberately avoided the cluttered indoor scenes of the exhibition hall and chose an outdoor walkway paved with grey stone. Once the white plush blanket was spread out, it instantly created a clean "little stage." Paired with the blue and white striped inflatable swim ring, the summer poolside atmosphere in the frame was immediately maximized.

Regarding the costume, the white off-the-shoulder long-sleeved top paired with dark blue one-piece shorts doesn't look too heavy visually and showcases the shoulder and neck lines. Combined with white over-the-knee socks and pink cat paw prints on the soles of the feet, the cuteness in the details is abundant. The red bell collar is one of the few bright color accents on the body, which beautifully frames the line of sight in the cold-toned night scene. The fluffy tail and animal ears were actually quite a test for angles during the shoot; because the props are rather voluminous, the tail can easily block the body silhouette when turning or sitting sideways. Therefore, I intentionally had the photographer capture more profile and three-quarter angles, such as the poses sitting back and hugging the swim ring in the pictures, which highlight the volume of the tail without making the look appear bulky.

In terms of props, that blue and white inflatable swim ring actually takes up quite a lot of the frame, but it happens to serve as a little interactive setting. I tried placing it behind me, in front of me, and even straddling it; different poses brought out different moods—hugging it felt a bit more docile, while leaning next to it seemed more relaxed. To reduce the sense of oppression in the frame, the photographer used a large aperture to blur the streetlights in the background and distant pedestrians into rounded bokeh spots. This way, the foreground subject and the texture of the blanket are emphasized. The overall light and shadow lean cold, but the skin tone retains a warm hue, looking clean and translucent.

The shooting period for this entire set of photos was very short, about half an hour, but because I had thought of several fixed interactive movements in advance, the photo efficiency was quite good. The plush tail has a magnetic structure, which easily tilts when squatting or sitting cross-legged, so when posing, I would intentionally engage my core to ensure the tail drapes down naturally. Actually, for Swimsuit convention photos, the biggest fear is chaotic environmental light or too many passersby stealing the spotlight in the background. The location chosen this time was relatively secluded, and since the evening light itself was soft, there was basically no need for overly strong additional fill light. We only used a softbox directly in front for facial fill light to achieve this relatively natural effect.

No heavy color grading was done in post-processing; it mainly brightened the white parts and suppressed the highlights in the background, creating a brightness contrast between the blue and white swim ring and the grey ground. The cat-paw socks on my feet are actually a hidden cute point of this look; since the soles of the feet are exposed in many sitting postures, I specially chose the printed kind, which not only echoes the animal ears but also adds fun. If I shoot this costume again next time, I might try to find scenes with water, even a small pool, which should make the "swimsuit" theme more immersive. However, I quite like the clean style achieved this time by shooting on flat ground entirely at the outdoor venue for this piece of Anime-style photography.
