For this Seaside location shoot, we captured a full set of Kumiko Omae Cosplay photos using the Sony A7M5 paired with the 24-70mm F2.8 GM II. The midsummer seaside was windy under direct, blazing sunlight—a classic complex lighting environment. Because I had to hold a large brass instrument, I often couldn't afford to adjust my posture just to accommodate sluggish camera autofocus. Fortunately, the AI eye-tracking performance of the Sony A7M5 was impressive. Whether running across the grass, turning around to look back, or even during moments when large playing gestures partially obscured my face, the camera locked onto my eyes instantly without hunting for focus. This allowed me to concentrate entirely on controlling my movements. Compared to previous shoots of this genre where numerous retakes were needed to obtain a sharp gaze and natural movement, the hit rate for action snapshots improved dramatically this time.

Looking at image quality, the 33-megapixel sensor is truly a dream for cropping and re-framing. In dynamic seaside shoots, there is rarely time for meticulous composition in the heat of the moment. If a low-angle shot left too much empty sky or accidentally included unwanted background elements on the grassy slope, cropping the edges in post-production still retained abundant detail. The stripes and folds of the uniform, individual wig strands, and specular highlights on the metallic instrument showed no noticeable softness when zoomed in. The high dynamic range provided vast leeway during post-processing. In backlit conditions, the bright sky was kept from overblowing, while shadowed areas like the White stockings and skirt hem were lifted cleanly without intrusive noise, resulting in smooth, natural tonal transitions.

Carrying this zoom lens proved highly practical: the wide end captured the vastness of the sea, while zooming in to the telephoto end framed full-body and medium shots perfectly aligned with standard anime cosplay angles. To keep the skirt and hair fluttering gracefully in strong winds, we repeatedly adjusted angles for continuous shooting. Running up and down the grassy slope was tiring, but under such dynamic movement, the in-body stabilization and burst shooting of the Sony A7M5 provided solid reliability—as long as my stance was steady, the captured frames were consistently sharp. Simulating her immersed playing state required walking, turning, and tilting my head right before shutter clicks, and the camera's AI tracking never lost lock even with these irregular movements. The metallic edges of the instrument caught crisp highlights that, combined with the sunlight shadows, gave the frame rich natural depth. Reviewing the photos afterward, several relaxed shots offered great freedom during cropping. The 33MP resolution gave ample headroom to adjust framing freely with minimal loss in image quality, making post-production remarkably effortless. Shooting portraits under high-contrast outdoor light usually demands a lot of time cleaning up shadow noise, but the high dynamic range spared us that step entirely. Although running around in a long-sleeved uniform carrying a heavy instrument in hot weather was exhausting, the shoot went seamlessly. The camera's performance made the process comfortable and left the final images with a clean, translucent texture, delivering a truly memorable Sound! Euphonium photoshoot experience.
