The theme of this shoot is Cyrene from Honkai: Star Rail, specifically her adult form. In order to live up to the pure and transcendent temperament in the character's setting, the team and I spent a considerable amount of time in early preparation. Regarding the costume, this piece featuring a white main body paired with layered lace cutout designs looks lightweight, but through multiple fitting adjustments outdoors and in the studio, we optimized the fit around the shoulders and chest quite a bit to ensure the off-the-shoulder cut wouldn't slip off during dynamic candid captures. The pale blue roses and accessories on the wrists, and even the subtle gradient colors on the skirt, were all color schemes we repeatedly confirmed, striving to integrate the imagery of "ripples of the past" into the details of the attire.
Regarding the hair and makeup, the layering of the pink long hair under the light was crucial. To complement adult Cyrene's ethereal atmosphere, we selected light purple-blue colored contacts, paired with low-saturation blush and lip colors to avoid the heaviness brought by heavy makeup. The halo-shaped metal bracket headpiece on top of my head required special care regarding its angle during shooting, as it easily shifts under the influence of gravity; fortunately, the photographer left ample space during composition, allowing these linear elements to form a contrast with the soft frame.
The shooting scene was selected inside an indoor location with arched stained-glass windows. In Figure 2 and Figure 3, one can see purplish-red light filtering down through the flower windows; this environment where cool tones and warm purple light intersect perfectly fits the character's original setting atmosphere. We placed a large amount of white tulle, fresh flowers, and Roman pillars on set, creating a holy and quiet low-light environment. When holding that white longbow shaped like flying wings, I attempted several different postures. During dynamic candid capturing, I not only needed to control the flying trajectories of the wig and the skirt streamers, but also cooperate with the lighting to ensure the premium texture of the bow's surface could be preserved by the lens. Those elegant ribbons tracing arcs in the air truly carry a vividness akin to a Dreamy Sprite that is difficult to simulate through static posing.
The shots of sitting poses were also an important part of this shoot. In Figure 4, I chose the most comfortable posture, which perfectly presented the lace patterns on the legs and the high heels completely, cooperating with the prop bow in hand to allow the overall temperament to reveal a touch of vulnerability from within the tranquility. The half-body close-up cradling my chin in Figure 5 pursues the exchange of gaze with the lens; this kind of close-up shooting heavily tests the focus of one's expression. For the color tone of the entire photo set, we processed it by reducing color saturation, utilizing a large amount of natural soft light diffuse reflections to align with the atmosphere of "becoming yesterday's tomorrow," which carries a bit of regret and healing. As a creator, being able to restore a character from conceptual art to a physical style in a real scene brings a strong sense of achievement in itself. I have always believed that a good Cosplay is not merely about restoring costumes, but moreover about transmitting the character's inner emotions. Leaving adult Cyrene's mark in the world of Honkai: Star Rail this time can be considered an earnest practice of Anime-style photography video and image expression.
