This Halloween photo shoot project has finally been realized, and I chose the original design version of Cosmic Princess Kaguya!. The Halloween vibe is fully nailed down; the overall idea was to incorporate stronger vintage and micro-gothic elements while retaining Kaguya-hime's inherent traits. To echo the holiday theme, a large-area purple and orange color-blocking was chosen for the costume. The purple main body of the upper half is paired with a white doll collar to retain a girlish feel, while the orange puff sleeves and the layered ruffles of the skirt hem add visual expansion and magnificence. A black lace lining is added to the inside of the skirt, which increases overall layering and a sense of weight when walking or sitting, making the skirt look more substantial rather than thin and flimsy. The wig features high-color-saturation long straight golden hair paired with blunt bangs, which beautifully flatters the face shape and better fits the character's temperament. The makeup focus was placed on the eye makeup, using orange-red eyeshadow to deepen the outer corners of the eyes, paired with a slightly upturned eyeliner to make the eyes look more vivid in front of the lens. The lip color is a semi-matte orange-red tone, echoing the main color of the costume. The headpiece is a distressed black-and-gray pointed witch hat, with messy mesh spliced along the brim edge, adding some dilapidated dark fairytale feel. To make the overall styling fuller, some black feather decorations were added to the back, adding a touch of fantasy color. In terms of the scene, to match the vintage gothic style, a large area of red velvet curtain was used as the background, paired with a classical golden carved single-sofa chair in the front. A multitude of elements were prepared for props; the biggest protagonist is of course various jack-o'-lanterns—some held in arms, some placed to the side—along with a transparent candy jar filled with colorful jelly beans, a distressed bronze kerosene lamp, and an exquisite two-layer small cake. Red rose vines are wrapped around the wooden window frame in the back, and spider webs and fake spiders were deliberately arranged to give the entire frame more storytelling, making it feel like being inside a witch's magic room. During the shoot, because the scene colors were quite intense, lighting was crucial. A relatively direct front light source was adopted to make the shadows sharper, giving a bit of a vintage film feel. To highlight the main subject, vignetting processing was also added to the back and sides of the sofa. Regarding sitting postures, I tried holding a jack-o'-lantern, crossing legs while sitting on the sofa, and even sitting on the carpet holding a black butterfly prop. I particularly like the action of sitting cross-legged/crossing legs on the sofa; it beautifully showcases the skirt's layers and leg lines, paired with the colorful candy jar in hand, giving a mischievous yet slightly mysterious witch feel. The posture of straightening the legs while sitting on the chair can further elongate the figure. This Halloween outfit has truly numerous details, from costume tailoring to the placement of various small props, a lot of thought went into it. Not only must the character's traits be expressed, but the specific atmosphere of the holiday must also be integrated—every click of the shutter is an attempt to recreate the image in my heart.
