For this NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Canaan swimsuit location shoot, I chose the poolside of a water park. The design of this outfit is very layered, with an outer layer of translucent green tulle and an inner black bikini, featuring hanging gold chains and tassel decorations on the chest and waist. Since it was an in-water shoot, I was initially a bit worried that the fabric would absorb water and stick to my body, looking heavy, but once in the water, I found the fabric dried very quickly, and the lightness of the underwater portion actually made movements look more natural.
To fit the character Canaan, I kept the iconic long straight hair with blunt bangs for the hairstyle, but shooting with a wig in the water was quite a challenge. The moisture made the hair strands a bit coarse, and combined with the pool water quality, every time I emerged, I had to rearrange my bangs and sideburns to prevent them from blocking my vision. However, the shimmering reflections from the water surface hitting the black hair and the green tulle dress created a gorgeous color contrast. While shooting, I tried to control my body's center of gravity in the water; for example, when immersed waist-deep, I needed to tense my core to keep my upper body upright while keeping arm movements relaxed. For the sets of photos sitting by the pool, the focus was on the extension of the legs, stepping barefoot on the rough pool-side tiles, trying to make the posture look lazy and relaxed, fitting the atmosphere of a summer pool.
The colors of this photo set are very translucent; the black of the wig and the mint green of the swimsuit formed a cool-toned balance under the water light. Since it was an outdoor shoot, the lighting relied mainly on natural light, with the 4 or 5 PM overhead sunlight partially blocked by leaves, creating soft light spots on the body. In one photo, I am sitting sideways on the edge, leaning forward slightly, with my hands naturally resting on the sides of my legs, my gaze straying slightly from everyday sweetness, trying to incorporate a bit of Canaan's sharp observational look. There are plenty of lush plants and amusement park facilities around the pool with rich background colors, so I needed to keep my body lines clean during poses to avoid the complex background swallowing up the main subject.
After experiencing this shoot, I feel that swimsuit location shoots truly test physical stamina and on-the-spot reactions. Underwater resistance made every turn and arm raise take a bit more effort than usual, and sometimes I had to overcome the instinctual urge to close my eyes when water got into them. The visual impression brought by this Canaan swimsuit contrasts sharply with the tightly wrapped assassin outfit from the original game, but shooting this theme in summer adds an extra sense of cool liveliness. I am very satisfied with the overall photo output; everything from color to movement met my expected vision.
