Today's look is the cheongsam version of Chien Wu from Azur Lane. Retaining traditional qipao mandarin collar and frog button elements, the costume's design incorporates a vibrant anime-style color scheme, where a blue base paired with fiery orange-red patterns creates strong visual impact. The black choker at the neckline and halter-neck cut, combined with reddish eye makeup, give the character both classical elegance and a touch of untamed sharpness.
Preparing for these convention photos really tested makeup durability and sweat resistance. Since the cheongsam's upper fabric has a subtly glossy satin texture and convention halls are crowded with heavy foot traffic, I had to keep my strides controlled to avoid creasing the fabric or getting tripped by fans. To elevate the on-site aesthetic, we specifically opted for a studio-inspired setup pairing concrete flooring with a white plush rug. This cool-toned grey floor brought out the blue cheongsam beautifully, while the white rug softened the cold, rigid ground.
For the styling, the lower half features high-cut black shorts paired with lace-trimmed over-the-knee Black tights outfit and black patent pointed high heels. Wearing this at a convention posed a bit of a physical challenge; the mini length of the cheongsam combined with high heels demanded strict control over posture and center of gravity, requiring me to engage my core and keep my chest lifted to convey the character's crisp, commanding elegance.
For hair accessories, I selected an oversized bright blue blossom in a matching colorway as an eye-catching highlight. Posing reclined on my side across the rug while draping sheer peach-toned tulle around added soft visual depth and airy texture to the frame.
Every Anime cosplay experience is a journey of understanding a character's personality and costume essence. Compared to gentle traditional cheongsams, this Chien Wu cheongsam styling emphasizes modern edge and empowered poise, creating striking visual recognition during the convention season. Though these are Cheongsam convention photos, I still aimed to present the most authentic character state before the lens. Lighting at the convention venue was far from ideal, but with flash fill-light, the satin texture of the fabric and the sheen of the hosiery were captured cleanly, which was deeply satisfying when selecting the final shots.
For cosplay, capturing convention photos often tests rapid emotional switching more than controlled studio sets. In a noisy venue, you must find the right expression and angle within seconds. In terms of composition, the highlight of this Chien Wu cosplay is the visual elongation of leg lines paired with lace hosiery, echoing the high-slit design of the cheongsam to honor character lore while showcasing the outfit's distinctive charm.
Taking off the heels after wrapping up was pure relief, but seeing the overarching atmosphere captured in the final photos made the entire day of travel and effort feel worthwhile. Every costume possesses its own personality; this Azur Lane Chien Wu cheongsam embodies classical poise alongside her trademark upright, capable demeanor. While cheongsam themes have been popular in the anime community recently, Chien Wu's distinct palette and tailoring are truly memorable, and I hope to take this outfit to more immersive outdoor locations in the future.
