Shooting this classroom-themed School-style photoshoot was purely out of a desire to recreate the daily high school girl life from anime and manga through the combination of outfit and scene.
When preparing for this photoshoot, I specifically chose this visually iconic Campus style uniform. The black double-breasted blazer jacket has a crisp cut, and the gold buttons add a formal texture unique to uniforms. Inside is a pure white shirt paired with a bold burgundy bow at the collar, forming a classic red-black-white color clash. This is a standard configuration for characters in many anime campus works, and wearing it truly brings a strong sense of an authentic school uniform. The bottom half features a dark gray pinstriped pleated skirt; this subtle stripe design nicely balances the heaviness of the blazer, maintaining a refined preppy charm.
The key to the styling actually lies in modifying the leg lines. Since the upper body color scheme leans heavy, the lower half is paired with a Black tights outfit using solid black pantyhose to ensure visual extension, matched with shiny black loafers to bring out the campus atmosphere in the photos immediately. The shooting location was set in an old classroom used for regular academic classes. The wooden desks and chairs bore slight scratches and sheen left by time, while chalk doodles, musical notes, and cartoon figures on the blackboard added an unexpectedly lively feel to the frame, as if the end-of-class bell would ring the very next second.
In terms of posing and actions, I aimed for nature and relaxation as much as possible. For instance, leaning against the edge of a desk, or simply sitting on the tabletop striking a pose—these were designed to break the rigid impression of uniforms and embody the playfulness and casual nature of teenage girls. When shooting those photos sitting on high stools and regular wooden chairs, I adjusted leg placements and natural hand positions to showcase the uniform outfit from different angles. Particularly, postures with legs stretched out or slightly curled up not only outlined the texture of the black tights and leg lines nicely, but also avoided looking forced or unnatural.
The lighting setup on set mainly consisted of soft ambient light combined with appropriate fill lighting, aiming to eliminate harsh facial shadows and make skin appear clean and translucent, while retaining the warm tones of the blackboard and wooden furniture in the background. As for post-processing, I controlled editing to a minimal degree, preserving genuine textures and colors to match this "everyday life" style. Shooting a portrait set that seeks atmospheric precision rather than flashy special effects often tests detail control far more than complex CGI. Whether it is the neatly ironed uniform or the angle of the bow tie, everything directly affects the temperament conveyed in the final image.
Shaping a campus vibe heavily relies on this accumulation of details. It doesn't require extravagant expressions, but rather attracts viewers through a naturally radiated blend of cool elegance and soft warmth. The overall keynote of this photo set is peaceful and comfortable, aiming to present this tranquil time through lens language. Moments like sunlight hitting the wooden desk through windows, or stepping out after changing shoes ready to jog down the hallway, were all frozen in these frames. After completing this shoot, I realized why uniform portraits remain classic: precisely because they carry a timeless quality unique to youth. Whether from styling layers, venue selection, or lighting choreography, this was a thoroughly complete integration of Anime-style fashion and portrait photography.
