[Yin Ziping Cosplay] Chalcedony Ice Core Styling: Sword Shadows in the White Studio

This was my first time attempting a shoot for the Chalcedony ice core look from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT in a white studio. Since the entire outfit is dominated by large areas of pure white, silver, and black line accents, paired with glossy white tights, the clean white backdrop brings out every single detail of both character and garment, creating an exceptionally clean and translucent visual impression. This time, I chose a modified Chinese-style white short dress featuring a decorative black choker ring wrapped in a white ruffled collar at the neck. The silver-grey 3D flower decoration on the chest paired with black hem piping forms a classic black-white-grey depth. The white headpiece on top features a crisscross knotted structure, harmonizing seamlessly with the overall cool aesthetic.

For pose arrangement, I chose to sit on a wooden high-back chair. The leg-crossing pose nicely showcases the flowing lines of the white stockings, and under studio lighting, the high-reflectivity material creates a clear visual focus on the legs. Resting my left hand casually on the chair's armrest, my right hand wielded the white straight-bladed long sword diagonally across my body. This broke the vertical stillness of the pure white background, utilizing the diagonal line composition of the prop to inject dynamic tension into the frame. The photographer used a softbox positioned at the front-side angle; given the high reflectivity of white garments and stockings, special care was required during exposure control to prevent blown-out highlights. The light fell with subtle delicacy, preserving shadow fold textures on white fabric while casting a gentle cylindrical sheen across the stockings.

As for makeup, to match the character's aloof demeanor, focus was placed on eye contouring. A touch of reddish tone was used for eyeshadow, forming a subtle warm-cool contrast against the all-white primary tone, rendering facial expressions more expressive and soft rather than washed out by large areas of white. The straight black wig with blunt bangs provided striking contrast against the white attire. The material of the white long sword echoed the white clothing; holding it required controlled wrist firmness to convey the sword's sharp lethality while maintaining an unruffled poise. White background photography is actually the ultimate test of a cosplayer's attention to detail, as a solid backdrop amplifies clothing fit, prop imperfections, and even a tiny snag on the stockings. Preparation before stepping in front of the lens was meticulous—no visible wrinkles on clothing, stocking highlights controlled properly, and makeup sustained flawlessly throughout the session.

The post-processing direction emphasized retaining the translucent clarity of the image, subtly smoothing gloss on the knees and back of the legs so highlights wouldn't feel jarringly harsh, keeping it close to authentic material textures. Collaborating with the photographer throughout this set went seamlessly; we experimented with various focal lengths and tilt angles. Selecting this seated pose as the lead photo was due to its well-balanced composition, where spatial relationships between person, props, and chair were handled just right, with the forward-extending line of the left leg acting as a great visual guide line. Though white studio shoots appear simple, they demand precise mastery over lighting, styling, props, and facial expressions. Through this shoot, I gained more practical experience regarding studio lighting logic for expansive white garments and glossy white stockings. Preserving the cool chivalrous spirit of NARAKA: BLADEPOINT's Chalcedony ice core look while rendering a relaxed, elegant air through the seated posture, the final result was deeply satisfying.
