Let's leave behind the past we can't bear to look back on and welcome the dawn of freedom together. This caption laid down the core tone of our duo cosplay photo set. In this shoot, we chose a vintage staircase scene that perfectly fits the theme for framing; the large blue-faced clock with white numbers and the dark wooden handrails behind added a lot of mysterious and retro narrative feel to the entire frame.

This time, I attempted the look of the Toy Merchant. Regarding the costume, I chose a black lace dress leaning toward a Gothic style, where the pink and purple flowers on the chest pair with the intricate black lace borders to present a touch of gorgeousness under the shadows while remaining elegant. To make the details more accurate, I specifically did a double-braid hairstyle and used black net yarn and purple decorative flowers on the top of the head and sidelocks as embellishments. The eye makeup also required some effort, adorned with rhinestones and star sequins, hoping to let the character's temperament reveal a sense of agility amidst the cold sharpness.

Meanwhile, my partner Yuan Da Niao Qyy interpreted the Batter, and our costumes formed an interesting complementarity in style. He wore goggles with strong steampunk elements, and that vintage wind goggle with blue lenses was exceptionally eye-catching in front of the lens. He wore a white fur-collared jacket paired with a blue scarf, plus the black high-top leather boots on his feet, overall presenting a strong explorer temperament. We constantly adjusted our positioning during the cosplay photography session; whether it was the high-and-low scattered staircase positioning or sitting side-by-side for a close-up, the collision of the black and white color schemes with purple and blue accents made us look both cool and harmonious in front of the camera.

The shooting process that day was actually a huge test of patience. The lighting of the venue itself wasn't very sufficient, especially at the turn of the stairs, which demanded high control over light and shadow. The photographer and post-processor Long Xiang nightfall was highly professional; he helped us adjust the lighting angles while guiding us on how to utilize the curves of the handrails on the steps to break up a rigid composition. What impressed me most was when shooting the cover photo where we sat side-by-side; the light happened to stream in from behind us on the side, outlining our silhouettes very sharply. Because we were wearing relatively complex costumes—like my skirt hem and lace gloves, as well as my partner's Batter cosplay goggles and leather straps—we had to be extremely careful not to damage the accessories when posing.

Thinking from the perspective of this character, shooting is not just about displaying a set of clothing, but more about conveying a spirit of breaking free from shackles and longing for freedom. Complementing the atmosphere of this photo set, I hoped to restore the resilience and free-spirited nature deep within the character's heart. We did our best to achieve excellence in prop details, costume texture, and character emotions across the entire photo set. The cooperation with my partner this time was highly tacit, as we could synchronize with each other's rhythm without much communication. Looking at the final finished photos and comparing them with the preparations before shooting, all the hard work was completely worth it. I hope this group of photos allows everyone to see a uniquely styled, texture-rich character presentation within our Identity V project.
