[Rem cosplay] Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World: Blue Heartbeat by the Summer Pool

Today I'm sharing this summer poolside outdoor photoshoot of Rem from Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World.

The sailor-suit-style top of this outfit is made of semi-sheer mesh fabric, paired with a bright yellow neckerchief at the collar. The lower half features a white pleated skirt accented with blue trim lines, and I chose semi-sheer white over-the-knee socks trimmed with blue lace. Trimming and styling the wig took quite a bit of time; the pink cross hairpin and blue ribbon bow required repeated adjustments because with the outdoor breeze and water-splashing movements, they could easily shift out of place if not pinned securely. To complement the blue contact lenses, the eye makeup was deliberately enhanced with deeper eyeliner and fuller lashes, and blush was applied slightly heavier than usual so the strong sunlight wouldn't wash out my facial contours on camera. I also wore a pink-and-white beaded bracelet on my wrist, keeping the details faithful to the character's accessory style.

The sunlight was blazing on the day of the shoot. The midday light was quite harsh, so we waited by the poolside until the light softened a bit before getting started. For that shot where I sit on the edge kicking water, capturing the exact moment of splashing water actually took multiple takes—it required precise control over the kick's force and the camera's shutter timing. The glare reflecting off the water surface was blinding; often it was hard to keep my eyes open, so I relied entirely on muscle memory for facial expression management. The varying elevations around the pool provided plenty of compositional variety; sitting on an inflatable swim ring or leaning against the railing yielded completely different perspectives.

Shooting with White stockings was a unique experience. Once in contact with water, the socks became translucent and clung tightly to my legs, easily wrinkling or bunching up, requiring readjustment after almost every take. When sitting directly in the water, the pleated skirt soaked through and clung to my body, getting noticeably heavier and restricting movement. However, the wet drape of the fabric added a wonderfully refreshing summer vibe to the final shots. The blue-and-white swim ring served as a fitting prop that harmonized with the theme while capturing great texture under the sunlight.

The entire shoot avoided exaggerated post-production compositing, relying mainly on the natural setting and direct sunlight. From early outfit selection and wig styling to on-site composition and pose directing, every step was dedicated to bringing out Rem's lively summer charm. This photo set documents the preparation work during this period, and I hope to share this splash of summer freshness with everyone.
