[Rem cosplay] Splashes in the Pool and Refreshing Summer Vibes

For this Rem swimsuit shoot, we chose an outdoor swimming pool right from the start. To embrace genuine summer refreshment, we abandoned indoor studio setups and relied on natural daylight and water reflections to shape the frame. This blue-and-white striped sailor-style swimsuit is layered with a sheer mesh short-sleeve cover-up, introducing rich visual depth that retains an airy lightness even when soaked in water. To prevent the palette from feeling overly cool-toned, I deliberately tied a bright yellow tie and brought along a yellow inflatable rubber duck prop, injecting vibrant pops of color into the blue-and-white base.

The core focus of this session was freezing splash dynamics and harnessing lighting. Capturing flying water droplets demands high shutter speeds; keeping the camera in continuous burst mode with a shutter speed of 1/1000s or faster is ideal. When standing in the water and tossing my hands upward, controlling the tension in my arms was crucial—avoiding stiffness allowed the water droplets to fan out into natural, organic arcs. For the shots where I leaned across the swim ring, shimmering sun glints across the water provided gorgeous specular highlights. I leveraged side-backlighting to rim my hair strands with golden light while lowering my body slightly so the water veiled my lower half, beautifully highlighting the texture of the sheer cover-up beneath the surface.

Transitioning to the shore for the wooden bridge setup, I slipped into white stockings (over-the-knee socks). The grain of the bridge and the white cut-out circular arch in the background formed a natural framing composition. Sitting on the bridge with legs crossed accentuated leg lines while adapting comfortably to the bridge's confined space. Wearing white stockings on an outdoor bridge can easily attract dirt, so we cleaned the planks beforehand and minimized excessive movement. In terms of hair and makeup, water shoots always risk makeup meltdown and wig deformation. I applied heavy-duty waterproof foundation sealed with a generous layer of setting powder. Submerging the wig indeed caused it to absorb water and grow heavy, making the bangs stick to my forehead; between takes, my assistant helped blot the ends dry with paper towels and restyled the bangs using strong-hold hairspray.

In conveying emotion, rather than holding rigid, stiff poses, I preferred truly immersing myself in the pool environment. Playing with water, splashing around, or spacing out while leaning over the swim ring—these everyday, candid moments consistently captured the most genuine expressions. For instance, the shot where I burst out laughing amid splashing water happened because water actually got into my eyes, and that instinctive laughter breathed tremendous life into the frame. From the moment I planned this Rem swimsuit set, I wanted to deliver character fidelity wrapped in breezy, summery everyday life. Buoyancy in water assists in holding poses that are tricky on land, yet it demands high stamina and breath control. Conversely, the static bridge shoot tested microscopic control—ensuring the drape of the skirt and keeping the stocking borders crisp required repeated mirror checks before clicking the shutter.

All in all, the visual essence of this series lies in coolness and contrast. The cool pool tones, kinetic water splashes, and the tranquil dialogue between white stockings and the rustic bridge were refined step by step throughout the shoot. Documenting another facet of the character through this visual language was a thoroughly exhilarating creative journey.
