Preparation for this Lauma cosplay look, from initial styling makeup to shooting, took nearly three weeks in total. The Song of the Empty Moon series in Genshin Impact has always been a design I dearly love; the blue-and-white gradient satin fabric paired with abundant gold metal ornaments, plus that pair of translucent crystal-textured dragon horns on top, exudes a serene, sacred aura. For this shoot, I specifically chose a studio, using single-sided blue light as a base layer combined with softboxes to recreate that feeling of moonlight pouring down in game.
The costume details really tested patience. The green gemstone choker on the neck was hand-set, requiring every single bead to be aligned properly; ribbons on the arms utilized semi-transparent chiffon fabric, and to capture a flowing feel, I tried tossing them from many angles. What gave me the biggest headache was the fine rope straps on the legs—it wasn't a simple wrapping process, but required precisely passing through toe rings before knotting upward. Taking it on and off took nearly twenty minutes each time, but for visual results, these tedious preparations were completely worth it. On the side of the waist are several hard decorative pieces with blue wave patterns, echoing the golden trims along the skirt hem; wearing the entire outfit feels quite substantial, yet visually it appears delightfully light in Blue fantasy style.
During filming, I experimented with three distinct postures. In the first shot, sitting sideways on the rug with body leaning back slightly and weight rested on elbows, this angle best highlighted the upper body's hollowed-out design and collarbone lines, while allowing the skirt hem to spread naturally to reveal leg strap details. In the second shot, I chose a cross-legged seated position with hands open upward, emulating a spellcasting or praying gesture; paired with the crisp silhouette projected on the blue background wall, a sense of mystery instantly emerged. In the third shot, seated on a white cylindrical pedestal with legs extended forward and wrists crossed in front, it was relatively stately; however, this pose easily looks stiff, so I deliberately tilted my head slightly with gaze directed toward the side of the camera to maintain a relaxed feel.
Regarding lighting, the photographer intentionally kept that long shadow contour on the wall, which was actually the key effect we wanted during early planning—since the character Lauma carries symbolism of a moon goddess and protection, stark contrast between light and dark provides far more dramatic tension than uniform lighting. The entire set of photos avoided excessive skin smoothing in post-editing, preserving real skin texture and light-shadow transitions, which I feel is much closer to authentic real-life roleplay.
As a record of my Casual cosplay creation, I thoroughly enjoy this process of transforming two-dimensional characters into three-dimensional reality. The fabric textures, weight of accessories, and even wig reflectivity under lights are all integral parts of cosplay. For this shoot, I was barefoot throughout, with toe nails painted light blue to harmonize with the overall blue palette, pursuing details to the extreme.
